Has anyone ever heard of ........

cementing someone's back.My BIL [greg's only brother-no sister suffers from Rheumatoid arthitis.Also he was rushed to the hosptial tues morning around 6:30 am.He had a bad Seizure.But he had two knee surgeries.The last one about 4 weeks ago.Staph set up in the bone.So the doctor went back in to try to get it to heal.But while he is still there he told them his back was in so so much pain.So they said they would do some tests to see what was causing the pain.They came and told us yesterday his back is broke and something else [maybe the hip socket was broke all to pieces.This is why he screams with so much pain.They said with the rheumatoid his bones get weak and easy to break.Than the doctor said they may can go in and Cement his back.That is why I wanted to ask if anyone ever heard of this and if it works.Does it help with the pain?They said he will be in a wheel chair from now on.We felt this was coming just because he has rheumatoid.So they had to fix his home for a wheel chair.They remodel his bathroom and put handicap shower in and all of it.They knocked the walls down to be able to get a wheel chair in so that he could get to the bathroom and other parts of the house.

I write all this to explain what is going on.We are not giving up and feel something will work out.We were just trying to study up on the cementing the back.They do not have their computer up and working yet so I said I would ask around and see if I can do some researching on what the doctor said.I will print it out and let my SIL have it.Thanks so much for your time.Sorry so long but I knew I could ask here.

How sad. I do hope that he can get some relief.

I don't know anything about the procedure that you mention. Hopefully something will help him

I've heard of fusing vertebrae together, meaning tying two (maybe more?) together so that they can't flex any more.

Don't know whether this may be the same, or similar.

I'm sorry to hear about about BIL's ongoing troubles.

Sending good thoughts and hopes that things may turn out as well as possible.

Yes Kristi! I would strongly recommend it. I will tell you how I found this place. It was about 5 years ago. I wanted a banana tree in the worst way. I was coming back to my house with roomate, and he said look! There's a banana tree! I did a u turn on a busy street and flew into that driveway and walked out with my banana tree! That was it, I was hooked to that place. I ave bought my vanilla orchid there, a navel orange tree that didn't make it due to cold temps when our aparment was being remodeled. I got my first mango tree there, it was a Southern Blush. That tree was over 6 feet and I paid $25.00! I also got my giant gardenia tree there. That was also over 6 feet and about 5 feet wide. Now, I can call them up and request any tree I want. I can't wait for January so I can get my red navel orange tree. Jim (the owner)had a tangerine...huge for $75.00. He offered it to me for $50.00 and it had about 7-8 almost mature fruit! I passed on it. I was very tempted but was'nt going to buy it just to buy it. I only have limited space for maybe 2 more trees. I strongly advise calling. If they sell any kind of tropical fruit, chances are you could get another tropical fruit. Good luck!! Andrew

It's funny I just wrote a question about wall mirror and mounting lighting on it. Yes I have seen several light sources on the mirror and it's beautiful. Not sure of your vanity size or how much light you need but I do have a couple of suggestions. If you have canned lighting directly above your vanity I would go with mounting your light sources on each side of the areas you would be looking into. Lighting specialists say to center your side lighting eye level or about 60 inches from the floor. The side lights remove the shadows when your putting on make up etc.... Since you already have lighting from above the lower level task lighting would be more useful. I am installing canned lighting and mounting sconce's on the mirror in my bathroom. Do a search of bathrooms and you will see many examples of lighting on mirrors. It doubles your light and looks very elegant. You also might request a dimmer for ambient lighting on those light sources. Hope this helps. You may also want to look at designers bathrooms on HGTV web site for great examples of this idea.

Judging by the style of the letters in "DELTA" and that the border enclosing the name is dashed lines, I think this is a stencil instead of a stamping. The stencil was laid on the wood and the ink sprayer was held at an angle to the left that produced a shadow effect on the right side of the characters. It is curious that the left part of this stencil is hidden under other parts of the table. This may not be the table maker, but rather the lumber supplier.

I've had RA for years. Never heard of any cementing, nor shattered hips.

They probably are talking about fusing.

If he's been on proper medications (which includes calcium and frequent scans), I can't imagine spontaneous shattered bones, especially hip sockets being left untreated and a patient in pain.

Sounds more like he has osteoporosis.

Sorry this is happening to him.

So sorry to read this. Don't know anything just wanted to add my good thoughts.....I am proud of Ashley going to grooming school that is a good field.....so many pamepered pets these days....Stacy

There are a few procedures involving injecting cement into vertebrate that have collapsed.

Kyphoplasty and Vertebroplasty

You can even find on-line videos of the procedures.

Best wishes to your BIL. There can be relief from pain caused by compression fractures.

Yes, my mom had this done last year and it worked beautifully. She has osteoperosis and gets back fractures rather easily, causing a lot of pain. The last one had her so miserable and we were quite surprised when the doctor said they would do the cement procedure, and that it would be a quick recovery. He was right! Are there any specific questions you want me to ask her?

Judy, my Mom had it done too. She has osteoperosis and RA, and has been on steroids for so long. This causes her bones to become thin. She's had 3 vertebra compression fractures. They did this procedure, and then it caused another one to fracture. She'll never do another one. She's gone from 4'11" to 4'7". Her back causes her a lot of pain too. She'll take a pain pill and go lay on her bed to stretch out her back.
