In Progress: Sneak Peak of white to dark remodel
Comments (12)Hi Marcy! Thank you! That is an option, just one we didn't trust our contractor to complete because of the many shortcuts he took that weren't done as seamlessly as we would have hoped. I know I could even buy the lazy susan hinges and hinge the perpendicular upper cabinet doors to one another with only the slightest cuts to the existing correctly sized doors. We have options certainly, I just won't let that guy near my litchen anymore! :( Natalie, thank you! The cabinets are from Cabinet Giant in Kansas City. They are solid maple, cherry stained with a glaze; the Brindleton Maple Reserve Line of cabinetry. The drawers and pull-outs are full extension, soft close, and dovetailed. They are super affordable, probably because they are RTA. Each cabinet took about 7 minutes to put together, except for the pantries and lazy susan. About 1/2 the price of the stores. Their customer service was excellent....See MoreBacksplash finished - sneak peak at almost done kitchen
Comments (21)Thank you so much everyone. My DH, who, with me by his side, has done all of the remodeling was so patient with my selection of the backsplash. Funny thing is that I circled back to the exact same tile I originally wanted. After looking at so many, not quite right whites, I think I finally got over the cost issue. I also found that by working with a distributer of Sonoma directly in california the price was significantly better than locally in the midwest - even after shipping costs. Lake_girl - our cabinets are also not a pure white, a soft white (Crystal calls it frosty white). The sonoma creamy is a little "creamier" than our white and without the grout they looke even more cream. So I do believe that the grout can change the "look" of your white subways. Bee - I will be more than happy to measure. I want to say it is 49" or 50" inside the posts but I'll measure and let you know for sure. Red - (Makes me think of one of my current favorite shows, Once Upon A Time - Red Riding hood :) ) --- The longer pulls are also a top knob pull. It is the TopKnob M965. My Knobs are the Top Knob M354, and the bin pulls are Top Knob M364. All in Antique Pewter finish. I found the best prices at topknobs.com. Loved hunting the web for the best prices for this project. My floor tile is from Italy and the local distributer thought their distributer "carried" it, but it turns out they special ordered so our tile people wouldn't order it. I emailed someone in Italy off the manufacturers website and they sent me a list of all US carriers. It turns out that I got the same tile for over 1000.00 less, out of Florida, including shipping. So excited! That was out of www.fastfloors.com. Love it when you get great deals on a great product for your remodeling efforts!...See MoreA few KAW sneak peaks
Comments (16)desertsteph- The salt bowl is a piece of Hall's Autumn Leaf. I have a set of 3 mixing bowls that were my mom's and that we used when I was growing up. I think they were her mom's, but I'm not sure. We've picked up a few pieces, including the piece we use as a salt bow,l at antique shops. There are almost always a few pieces in every shop. I forget what it's called. Soufflé? Ramekin? It just looks like a tiny little mixing bowl. Some pieces are plentiful, like the mixing bowls. Others are rare and crazy expensive. A little googling is eye popping. It matched my rust-colored old kitchen better, but I still like it around....See MorePainted cabs installed, 2 big questions & sneak peak!
Comments (1)Beautiful cabinets! I noticed the color difference in the crown molding only after you pointed it out, but I'm not especially observant about those things. it would bug me now that I notice it. Do you by chance use Reveal lightbulbs? My friend recently had her kitchen painted a lovely stone gray, but under the Reveal light, it looked positively pink! Once she changed the lightbulb, all was good. As far as inside the doors go, my cabinets just arrived today (eeee!!!) and the inside is as perfectly smooth as the outside. My are stained, not painted, though, so I'm not sure if that makes a difference. I know exactly what you mean about getting chills from certain surfaces. I can't touch (or even think about!) unfinished terra cotta. A friend gave me a beautiful glazed salt dish/lid set but the lid part and the top of the dish both had a ring of un-glazed terra cotta. When they came together, I would nearly throw up (I can barely even type it!) lol. I had to give it away....See Morejkayd_il5
