Help! Rethinking colors - white and off white - please vote
Comments (4)I suspect if you change to all whites, they won't be exactly the same shade of white, either. Pre-update, I had a white sink and a couple of white appliances and none of them were exactly the same shade of white, nor did any of the whites match the off-white cabinets nor the white countertop appliances (coffeemaker, coffee grinder, microwave). If your granite is as drop-dead-gorgeous as it sounds, THAT is what will be noticed! I agree with yesdear (love that name!) that you could switch the faucet and keep everything else off-white. Or have you checked to see if you can just switch the white handles? Some faucets come with a choice of tip colors and can be changed....See MorePirula, Other Color Gurus, need warm off-white help, please!
Comments (3)RL Deep Cream is very pretty, although very changeable, so you'd need to sample it in your house and room before deciding (well, you'd do that anyway!). Other posters here have called it "grey" or "lemon" -- in my somewhat dim MBR, it's a very warm off-white, right on the cusp of light beige and ivory. I don't see either grey or lemon in it at all. Too light for my purposes, but lovely. Maybe right for yours? There's another thread going about neutral paint colors -- perhaps there'd be some good suggestions there? Many people seem to like BM Ivory Tusk. Good luck!...See MoreTibbrix- need to make a final decision!
Comments (6)Capitol white is a slightly lighter "version" of the Ivory White. I definitely prefer the CW in high natural light conditions, when it is creamier. A west-facing room is not going to have those conditions, and especially a bedroom, which is used primarily at night and therefore mostly with artifical light. With the sun rising in the east, in the morning, presumably the room is fairly "dark" as well. So bascially, it sounds like for what it is, the room and the times it is more frequently used, is a low-light room. If you want white walls in such a room, I think you are smart to go with a warm white like CW or IW. What I would do, if I were you, is get a pint sample of each and paint LARGE swatches on every wall, right up against wall trim and behind furniture. Then, at the times of day when the room is most frequently used, i.e.: mornings and evenings/nighttime, go in there and make a frame with your hands, framing ONLY the paint color (do one at a time) and the trim or piece of furniture. Block everything else out in the frame so that when you look through the frame, ALL you see is the paint color and the trim or edge of the piece of furniture. Do that with both colors, one at a time. That gives you a very good idea of hat each color will look like once it is in the entire room because there is no interference from the current wall color, the ceiling, floor, the other swatch... That will give you your answer, I think....See MoreHelp! Picking kitchen cabinet colors, need help with off-white/creams
Comments (14)Aw man, thanks for the comments guys! After being in this house with small kids for eight years, the cabinets are showing wear and there is quite a bit of water damage on many of them and some are broken (didn’t show you that photo!). So...that was where my head was at with going ahead and painting the cabinets. They are already priming today so this is a done deal! In my area, painting cabs is still a big thing (we might steer behind the times a little) and a big thing people look for in resale (we could be moving in a couple years). Honestly, it might not be trendy but I still love my granite! It hides stuff so well and never looks dirty. And I never even notice my backsplash and I just don’t care that much about it. It’s hard for me to warrant changing something just for cosmetic reasons (counter and backsplash) versus need (cabs). We got an amazing deal on the painting so I feel good about it. I’m going full steam with Antique White. After looking at it forever and being in complete decision making paralysis, that’s what I’m going with! I’m going with brass/gold knobs to add a little bit of funky and I have lots of Anthropologie-esque and plants to add character. I have a very open floor plan with my living room right there in all it’s colorful glory, so I’m thinking the lighter will look nice. I’ll be happy to post a pic when I’m done. Thanks for listening!!...See Morepeaches12345
