I am told immature roses don't always look like themselves to compound the confusion. I have had very variable roses on the same bush depending on temperature.

I have the Rose du Roi from Rogue Valley. I don't have any pictures of mine, but if you can post some of yours, I can tell you if it matches what I have. Mine is immature as well.

With a rose as old as RdR, I think it would be impossible to tell who, if anyone, has the "real" thing, but it's possible yours could be mislabeled. Post some pictures if you can.

I think this picture might look something like mine. It's been a while since I had a flower, so it's hard to remember exactly.

What Sheila said and, though my Rose du Roi (of commerce) came from Vintage, there is some difference between immature and summer blooms and those of the first flush in spring on a mature rose. I don't have many summer photos of this rose, for the very reason that the summer blooms are generally not the spectacular form and color they are in the spring and fall. Were your two blooms produced just recently, Jo, during summer?

Regarding the picture of this rose on RvR's website--while it looks like the correct rose, there's something about the angle or the way they captured it that makes it look uncharacteristically more...not sure...modern maybe? At first glance it (the photo) does look somewhat like a very full modern rose. So I wouldn't go by that photo. And what was said above--in hotter temps, fully double roses sometimes produce blossoms with fewer petals.

Next time mine blooms I will make an effort to take pictures.

Update. I wasn't expecting mine to bloom again until Fall, but there was a flower on it this week, Wednesday I think, so I took a picture. Sorry for the lack of quality--cheap camera phone.

It looked like catspa's first picture, but with fewer petals. It still smelled nice, though. (The earlier flowers this year were fully double.)
