Comments (14)Thanks Jessica for starting this thread. It was a good reminder to order some of these roses. I also think Mme Letuve de Colnet is gorgeous (she looks rather like Grandmother's Hat to me). So I sent in a request for: Mme. Letuve de Colnet Annapurna Florence Ducher Marie Robert Florence Ducher is named after the breeder's wife, always a good sign.;) Annapurna looks to be an excellent white (and I need more white roses). Marie Robert looks appealing and different than what has been in commerce as indicated on HMF. Melissa...See MoreTea 'Mlle. la Comtesse de Leusse'
Comments (6)Inspired by hearing that Vintage will be importing from Roseraie du Desert, I went to the RdD site, looked through all the teas and Chinas (that had photographs) and made a short of list of ones I'd love to get in my already full garden. Still, it was fun, although a bit torturous. MlCdL is on my short list, btw. I hope they make us both happy. I'd also love to hear from those in Europe who grow some of the teas from RdD, and who would comment on how they perform in the garden. A pretty picture on a website is one thing. A rock star in the garden is another....See MoreHelp me decide, if possible!
Comments (14)LOL, Virginia!!! Might've known it! The ancient Greeks said that if you take something to the extreme, it becomes it's opposite, and I guess this is what is happening here. My cyber-incompetence has become so extreme that now it is morphing into cyber-super-powers!!! Kidding aside, I have found that clicking on links from these forums is very risky: twice I wound up "picking up" something from totally innocent links, posted by totally reliable forum members, that caused problems for my PC. My DH pointed out that these things can happen, without the poster being aware of them; I'd guess it has something to do with Houzz??? so I wanted to make it clear to anyone reading my thread that if by just typing my post I accidently "picked up" something weird, it was NOT done deliberately by me, and if there does appear to be a link, DON'T click on it! Yes, I am worried about the risk of extinction thing, too. I see that this nursery near Rome that Becky mentioned to Melissa does have many of the Hooks' roses, and La Campanella has some of them, too,so I've tried to include in my list certain ones that it seems that only the Hooks offer (a couple on my list are not on HMF and I've never even seen pictures!) But others are varieties that I've wanted for some time now, and several are ones that I actually did buy a couple years ago, but wound up losing due to the fact that my garden conditions are so harsh, and I didn't have a decent spot at our old house for raising potted-up bare-root/own-root roses up to a size hefty enough to stand up to said conditions. And then there's Jeri here on this forum, subtly enabling and tempting one with her pictures/posts about, say, F Bowers' Pink Tea,Yuki's Dream,lol......See MoreHeritage Rose Foundation, "Rose Preservation" at The Huntington
Comments (38)Many years ago, we grew a rose called 'Etoile de Lyon'. I don't remember for sure where we got it, but I would have thought Joyce and Virginia. It was a pure, true yellow, definitely not the same as 'Bermuda's Anna Olivier'; but of course it may not have been a "real" EdL. Bermuda's Anna does seem to be the same as what is now generally known as EdL. I wish I knew what our old one was, and I wish I still had it -- it was an unusually nice, very large-flowered pure yellow Tea. As I recall, it did ball badly in some weather....See Moreingrid_vc so.
