I finally made a decision!

The hardest decision so far had been what to use for countertops. I originally thought I wanted one of the new fx laminates. Till I found out that was about the same price as stone or higher and the fabricator better be well versed on it. I had picked out slabs of white thunder granite but I was not totally in love with it. I knew I wanted mostly white and gray but didn't mind a little bit of brown. We went back to the granite guy recently to pay down deposits. He had just received some new slabs. And there it was! It was singing my name! I said what is this and is it reserved? He said it could be mine! So I am happy to introduce you to my new love! My Fantasy Brown quartzite slabs!

Full slaand one close up. It has more white and gray than any other fantasy brown I have ever seen. It is just enough brown to pull in the cabinets and the hints of brown in my barnwood tile flooring.

Wonderful and beautiful choices, raven.

The above statement, "It is great and doesn't show any dirt," reminded me of a conversation that came up in my office with a retiring nurse. She talked about having to chose tile for her kitchen redo; I mentioned the tile I had had installed recently was lovely and didn't show dirt. The nurse looked at me with absolute horror in her eyes and also looked at me as if I were a slug and said, "I don't want something that hides the dirt, I want pure white so that I can see any dirt and immediately get rid of it. I want a clean house." Talk about a discussion stopper. Not one word was said until she walked out of my office. ha ha ha.

Oh yes. I just love fantasy brown every time I see. I'm glad you found some slabs that make your heart sing!

I like it. Looks great with the floor choice. My DD had that flooring in her last home. It is great and doesn't show any dirt.

I think people's attitudes about getting/making recovery disks are like getting extended warranties for purchased goods: some want it always, some don't care. For me, having a recovery sector is enough. If more is desired, I think Crafty's comment about making your own (or making a disk image) is reasonable and easy enough to do. There's certainly no harm done. In 25 years of using and owning a few dozen machines, I've never needed to recover from a disaster or disk failure. You can interpret that two ways - you could say that shows that recovery planning is mostly unnecessary (I've got files backed up redundantly), or you might say I'm overdue for a disaster and it'll happen to me any day now.

thanks jsweenc - I'm so happy with my faucet. I've been functioning without any issues. Thank you for the wonderful comments. I by no means am a designer, but had a vision and was able to pull it off. I love the way our kitchen turned out. The floors are brazilian teak and I wasn't sure if I should match the color with the cabinets, go lighter or darker, so we went with these and I think it really works so well. We are almost 100% complete. We purchased the molding for our sunroom and should be done with that room before the end of the week... and the furniture comes in. As for the backsplash, it may be another 2 weeks before its in. But here's a picture of our selection. The first picture is the design we plan to use the 2nd picture is our color of choice. Its a white/gray tile and the glass tile will run as a border, has hints of reddish brown.

Ialways liked fantasy brown too but all I saw were very brown. This one is just right.

Great choices! Your new, redone home will look VERY custom! (I used something similiar to Krypton for the last remodel. It was BM A touch of grey. I'm using Park Avenue paint to stencil a moroccan desgin around a fireplace right now. It's similar to your swatch. )

It is very beautiful and looks good with your choices. There's a thread on Fantasy Brown in Kitchens that has been ongoing for about two years. But some people have paired it with wild backsplashes that make me cringe. Shhhh, don't tell them....

Thank you so much everyone. It's making me feel a little better since I am getting to pick out my stuff. I really like the guy we are having handle the cabinets and countertops he is giving us discounts since we are flooding victims. Very nice to run into some businesses that know what we are going through.

If onlythe mortgage company would be human beings instead of greedy trolls our lives would be much better. We desperately need the rest of the money and again they will not release it.

I have read everything I can find about the fantasy brown. I love the threads on the kitchen forum.

Walnut Creek Iddefinitely want something that hides dirt lol. I know exactly what you mean. I had just installed dark wood colored laminate flooring in my formal living room and was going to put it in the dining room then the flood happened. But I had it long enough to know it showed everything, including footprints, mine and my little dog included. It was very easy to clean but it really drove me crazy seeing tracks across it. I am hoping that barnwood look porcelain tile will be more forgiving . Thanks!
