Ok so I see grape vines all over Houston, my grandfather called them Mustang grapes. They probably have a more technical name but they are the big purple grapes that make really good grape jelly. Anyway, can I transplant some young ones if I dig them up in an empty field and put them in my backyard. Should I plant them in the shade or full sun and do they need a special soil mix or can I just put them in a hole and watch them grow. Thank you

They take full sun well and I don't think they require good soil because they grow everywhere.

Mustang grapes grow in Central Texas. What you are seeing is muscadine grapes. About 90% are male plants that will not produce grapes. It would be best to buy select varieties. They do not cost much. Some are self fertile and others need a pollinator. If you found one that had grapes you could dig it up and plant it. They are native so you would not need a special soil mix. They do need to be pruned each year. Do best in full sun.

I think that all the variations of cattleya like Slc. are now just Cattleya. But I think it was accurate when I acquired it. Regardless, this is as you say a beautiful orchid. I have had it for more than 20 years. I bought it from a collector turned small orchid business. He never would sell if he had only one. At the time I saw it, it was in full bloom with many bulbs in various stages of budding. I asked if I could buy it if I promised to bring it back when the bloom was done. He agreed. When I brought it back I got my first lesson on repotting. We got 6 or 7 divisions and he gave me 2 completely potted. A memorable experience. My healthy addiction started...
