There is a problem with the name of this beautiful orchid. No orchid in the Hybrid register called Slc. Valentine Todd.

Much confusion caused by changes to RHS Database.

I think that all the variations of cattleya like Slc. are now just Cattleya. But I think it was accurate when I acquired it. Regardless, this is as you say a beautiful orchid. I have had it for more than 20 years.

I bought it from a collector turned small orchid business. He never would sell if he had only one. At the time I saw it, it was in full bloom with many bulbs in various stages of budding. I asked if I could buy it if I promised to bring it back when the bloom was done. He agreed.

When I brought it back I got my first lesson on repotting. We got 6 or 7 divisions and he gave me 2 completely potted. A memorable experience. My healthy addiction started...

The genera Sophronitis has been deleted and all the Sophronitis species have been moved to Cattleya. There are many other changes and sometimes there are duplicate names in the RHS Database. Hence C. Valentine (1954) 'Todd' so that people can tell which particular C. Valentine they have.

That color is sublime. What gorgeous set of flowers. Can tell it's very happy in your yard. Love that orchids just keep perpetuating themselves for as long as they are cared for.
