Comments (8)Tess, A gift from a thoughtful neighbor of so many varieties of iris sounds like a dream come true! I had irises given to me this year by six different people. Most are probably the historic irises. One 87 year old lady gave me a start of each of her three irises. I asked an elderly widower for a start of his irises. He was happy to share. He only had one kind, a lavender bi-tone historical, but he was very generous with the rhizomes. I can hardly wait to see them bloom in my flower garden. Walter, I'm a newbie. I notice you said you put Preen on your iris bed and were going to add lime. My husband says lime will kill weeds. Is that what you're using it for or does it serve another purpose, too? I bought some of the 100% corn gluten herbicide someone recommended in this forum recently. I was going to use bonemeal, but after reading the comments about the dogs digging up the iris, looking for the bone, I reconsidered, as I have a dog. Then a lady told me that as long as the dogs have bones to chew on, they won't dig for the bone meal. I've decided to go ahead and add the bonemeal. Will let you know what happens with that. I"m learning a lot from this forum. Thanks. Charlotte...See Moreole joyful's old story
Comments (2)Hi Glenda, When I told your story to the guy with a car with fewer years on his than mine, who says that he likes to have me park next to his, 'cause it makes his look good (and there's just room for two cars where he likes to park, beside the driveway, not far from the church door) ... ... he got a good laugh out of it! Being beset by a certain measure of laziness ... when I have some veggies to haul into the church, I like to park not too far from the door, when possible. ole joyful...See MoreHow joyful were you seeing the old kitchen gone?(pics)
Comments (13)Wow I love those pink/purple cabinets!! Ok, here's some pics of my old kitchen. Notice the sink counter area? That was the only counter space in the entire kitchen. And look what the sink cab had become over the years. Rotten!! And check out the wood SHINGLES along where the walls meet the ceiling! I sorta kinda thought they were a little cool when we moved in 12 years ago but that lasted about a minute. And what it looked like after the second day of demo! Of course the sentimental side of me feels bad about knocking the entire room down... but it needed to be done. It was rotting and it was a very poor use of space. I'm looking forward to putting up finished kitchen photos!...See MoreVent on getting old
Comments (9)Really thankful that, at 82, with about a quarter mile of garden row (and some seeds still to plant) I've been enjoying good health: it's seldom that my body tells me, "Listen, you danged old fool - you can't do that any more!"! Blood clot in the lung last fall, some pain and discomfort for one day and the blood thinnners that the nurse gave me that night cleared things up ... and I've been on Warfarin since. Regular visit with the doc this morning, discussion of a follow-up scan, and I'm to get one soon, things going well and they're considering taking me off of the Warfarin. Now ... if I could only remember what else it was that I intended to say! ole joyful...See More- 10 years ago
