Vent on getting old

If bad luck happens in threes, maybe mine is done. I tripped and fell on April 19 right in front of my office. Just as my wrist was healing from that fall, two weeks ago I missed the last step on the basement stairs (carrying laundry) and fell on my legs. The right calf is knotted up, but there are no visible bruises. (I have never broken a bone.) Today, I chipped a molar. The whole outer section came off. First time that has happened to me. Will see the dentist tomorrow at 12:30 and will see an orthopedic doctor Thursday am. I'm 63 and in the last few months feel like I am falling apart. Thought about retiring, but realized that won't keep me out of trouble!

Ouch, you've really had a time of it. I went through a stage like that and one day my boss took me aside and asked me if everything was okay at home. I told him sure but couldn't figure out what the heck he was talking about--he thought Harry was beating me up--lol! Harry's just about the gentlest man I've ever met.

Sure hope you heal soon. I've never broken a bone either, but sure wasn't for lack of trying :-)

An ODS measures the amount of available oxygen in the room and will turn off the burner before the oxygen in the room reaches a dangerous level. The method in which this fuel burns can be thought of as similar to how a natural gas range works in your kitchen. The burner on your range is specifically designed to achieve a clean and smokeless flame. The technology available in Ventless Gas Log Sets on the market today works on similar principles. One disadvantage of Ventless Logs are that the flame is generally smaller. A realistic flame is still possible, but it may not be as large as a flame from a Vented set of comparable size.

There is no vertical main pipe of any kind. The drains all connect to the big pipe that runs horizontally from the toilet to the septic tank. There is just a two foot vertical section where all the pipes hook up, and the capped top of that pipe is clearly visible. These are s-traps. They don't so into the walls, just straight through the floor, and the entirety of the pipe is visible from the crawlspace, so I can see there is no other connection to the drains for the sink and tub. It is an old house, with plumbing that looks like it was added and changed multiple times over the years. For instance there are a few cold water lines that go out to areas with no fixture and are capped.

Some to son and his companion, some to landlord, some to me, some to a couple of churches that I attend, with request that folks add a little more to the offering, and some to social agencies. For the last couple of years, late spring, shortage of rain, or too much, maybe some old seed, really disappointing as many didn't come up, and some only a few e.g. about three cabbages in a sowed row about 50' long. Next to no damage in the fall with the stepladder: I was only on the second step, after all ... and the ground was soft. Would find it hard to replace it, though, as it, along with a number of other things, came from the ex-'s house following her death, twelve years ago. The landlord rented land next to the garden to a neighbor, who has early-harvest beans, as he wants to sow that field to sod, this fall, so wants the crop off early. The plants have some vines, and a profusion of flowers, and the bush beans, green and yellow, in my garden came out in blossom a few days ago, so I called the landlord's wife to tell her that we'd soon have beans ... ... but cautioned her about telling the neighbours about it, for the first story would be that soon K. (she) and C. (landlord) would have beans ... but as it got retold, it'd be that "soon K. and C. would be "has-beens". She laughed. ole joyful ... who's in air conditioned library (with solar panels covering the roof over the YMCA/YWCA wellness centre, the library and two hockey rinks, currently in use) through the heat of the afternoon, rather than the garden, in these almost record hot days

The hood in the picture has insufficient capture area, zero capture volume (reservoir), a mesh filter where baffles would likely be needed (depending on cooking and CFM), and spillage out the front due to the cylindrical shape of the canopy. Adequacy of volumetric air flow rate is almost irrelevant. Providing a photo or part name/number of the Wolf hood in question would be helpful. In general, hoods can be wall mounted with a duct that rises toward the ceiling, or extends horizontally into the wall. Ducts that rise vertically will typically have duct covers, as in the example in the picture. Some Wolf hoods (island hoods in particular) are made to hang from the ceiling. In my case (Pro Island hood), a duct cover is bolted into ceiling joists, and the hood is bolted to the duct cover. In other words, the configuration is designed to carry the weight. The duct itself is not intended to be weight carrying. Typically the hood structure carries the part of the duct weight below the ceiling. There are many factors to consider with hoods, and if these haven't been considered before purchasing the Wolf hood, perhaps we should go over them once the hood has been specified. The correct approach, of course, is to determine the ventilation system's performance, aesthetic, and cost requirements before purchase of a hood that meets them, or which provides the best (in the customer's view) trade-off among them. And don't forget make-up air requirements. Review of a significant number of 'hood' and 'MUA' threads here should provide insight into performance requirements.

I hope your 'Black Cloud' has moved on. I too kinda believe in The three idea. When two bad things happen. it's like waiting for the other shoe to drop. LOL When I hear the phrase......falling apart, my mind goes to my late friend, Sue. She would get her words or letters mixed up and she would speak in Spoonerisms.....Falling apart, she would say palling afart. The only broken bone I've has was a big toe when I slipped in the tub and the toe hit the faucet when I fell.

It actually seems like you are young, mobile, healty and active one day and the switch gets flipped and the next it's a trip down hill until you are old. I'm already there but trying to stay alert and all of the above.

I noticed big changes when I hit forty. My once-perfect eyesight suddenly turned to near-sightedness. I had to wear glasses,Gah! Not only that, my prescription got worse every year. And my gums started to recede. Extra cleanings at the dentist, and faithful flossings followed . And my hips and derriere got bigger than ever. (I was always bottom-heavy, even in Junior High). Now I'm nearly 60. But as my Dad always said, consider the alternative.

Sorry about your streak of bad luck. As for retirement, it is wonderful--it gives you plenty of time for doctors' appointments.

I am also 63. I remember a time when my calendar was filled with fun dates. Now, it is filled with medical things for DH and me. Getting old is not for wimps!

I'm 64 and I agree with having more medical/dental/chiropractic appointments.
Right now I need a dental implant and my DH needs a right shoulder replacement. Last year I had cataract surgery and he had a left shoulder replacement, along with a back inflamation/infection, (they weren't sure what it was except
it was serious and he spent time in the hospital.) Last year he was hospitalized 4 times for 4 different problems.

I hope this year will be easier on us....

Ouch! Well, I'm glad to be in such lovely company, but I wish all of us were doing better. Thanks for all the sympathy and kind notes.

The dentist was able to "fix" my tooth without novacaine. Was in and out in 30 minutes. That was a relief. Yep, I am getting bone implants for my teeth. Had the right side done two weeks ago and it caused a big bruise. Had to do training with a green streak on my cheek! Scheduled the left side for mid August when I'm done doing all the training.

DH has nine years to go, so I will work for a while longer. I do love my job and I'm not ready to give it up. Wouldn't mind more vacation time, though!

Really thankful that, at 82, with about a quarter mile of garden row (and some seeds still to plant) I've been enjoying good health: it's seldom that my body tells me, "Listen, you danged old fool - you can't do that any more!"!

Blood clot in the lung last fall, some pain and discomfort for one day and the blood thinnners that the nurse gave me that night cleared things up ... and I've been on Warfarin since.

Regular visit with the doc this morning, discussion of a follow-up scan, and I'm to get one soon, things going well and they're considering taking me off of the Warfarin.

Now ... if I could only remember what else it was that I intended to say!
