What garden do you wish you had?
Comments (37)Lol - dh recently read Setting the Table, by a restauranteur who has a bunch of restaurants in NYC, and said that now he has a reason he would want to go there. I was going nuts trying to remember the name of The Cloisters as a place I would want to visit! I'd also love to visit Sissinghurst and Giverney. As for what I would want for myself - a pond with irises and water lilies, a walled garden instead of just the perennial border of my garden room, roses, and, well, just lots more areas to do differently in different color schemes, etc. Of course, I would also need a full-time staff to help me maintain it! Btw, another of my favorite public gardens is the one in Madison, WI. We were there last summer, and dh and I are going back to Madison next week for our 10 year anniversary. The main plan is to visit some wineries, but I may sneak in a visit to the botanic gardens....See MoreWhat perennials do you wish you had never planted?
Comments (25)My NEVER AGAIN list includes: adenophora, snow on the mountain, lamb's ears, japanese artimesia. I think the "cherry bells" are pretty, but they came up everywhere so I yanked them! I actually have had no trouble with a lot of the plants you all have chosen here. No prob with daisies, mock orange, astrantia, bee balm, astilbe, etc. Have had absolutely NO luck with foxgloves, coreopsis "early sunrise" and "limerock ruby", or gaillardia "burgundy". My oriental poppies do well, but I, too am thinking they are not worth the trouble. I pulled my lady's mantle this year, with limited garden space I prefer "showier" plants. Some of you got my "Always Afternoon" daylilies because they were an off color in my soil, I am also pulling my "black eyed stella", and possibly a couple more, same reason as lady's mantle. There are others I have difficulty growing, but this is all I can think of off the top of my head. Linda...See MoreDream Thread! (What do you wish you had now?)

Comments (56)When we built in 2001, we couldn't do some rooms we wanted because of lot size . . . when all kids and grandkids were there it was very crowded. The house we're building now started out to be all on one floor . . . then we got talked into adding a walkout lower level, and now I have all the rooms we wanted last time and more -- including laundry room off the master suite, formal dining room, kitchenette downstairs, and craft room -- where grandkids can finger paint or whatever and I can start messy projects and leave them out till they're finished!! The house is too big, but we're planning to enjoy every inch of it!! What I'd love would be a glass greenhouse -- not just a lean-to on the side of the house but a fancy, elegant one, where I could do seed-starting and grow tropicals!! But I'm not complaining!!...See MoreSweetMonkeyCheese Z9 Tampa
