I tend to like the idea of flat edging, but I want it colorful so if I could mix the 1st pic with the other pics I would be in heaven.

But instead of flat stone make mosaic steps and rocks and such .

I guess maybe like a colorful path...but it be much less wide so it could be a edge to a bed.

This is cool, but I am sure high maintenance.

Here is an idea that could be cheap and easy (garage sales, thrift store, heck clearance at pier1 imports even, I have a few plastic decorative plates I got for a buck each.

My house had all kinds of "edgings" when i bought it but over the years I've removed them First they didn't prevent the grass nor the weeds but certainly made it a lot more difficult to maintain lol 3 years ago I did pave an area to separate the house plants from the tree/epiphyte beds . I like it but all kinds of things are popping up in the cracks but so far I find it interesting but the Boston ferns are probably going to take over . I intentionally planted with several types of selaginellas and mosses which are gorgeous occasionally but mostly a lot of work to maintain . It does make a great place to set my menagerie of pots. Looks sort of organized and is very easy to arrange. I particulary like it as it makes it easy to get to the trees and palms for pruning and weed removal . I've always been a collector rather than a landscaper and the entire picture doesn't interest me as much as the individual plants .

I find the weed whip makes wonderful edges between the grow areas and infinitely variable ,though once in a while the edges get overdone lol gary

That is gorgeous! I always loved that plant, and had one in my old garden, but it died during a freeze.

Its one of my lowes clearance plants too! I think i paid 3.50 for it a year ago - it was almost dead!

I love the mosaic stones. I want to try that!

Sweet Monkey, I m also in the investigating edging / border. I ve had garden with and without. Without, the lawn guys just end up making the beds bigger and bigger or end up weed whacking your prize plants. Weeding is a never ending job but the right border edging goes along way in helping keep mulch in place etc. I personally love the flat natural stone path border. I can also see the more artistic borders in a more artistic garden.

Oldmanroot, I reading on my phone so I can't see your picture that well but are those coral rocks? If so, I especially like them cause they give the perfect nod to a Florida bed!

Helen - they are! We moved in four years ago, and every time I dug I hit a rock, it seemed. I took to piling them up on the side of the house where we couldn't see them, and over time, you can see I collected quite a few! About two weeks back I got tired of how hard it was to edge and mow around that bush, so I decided to use all that rock to build a wall. It's probably over a foot high, in places. It used up all of the big pieces. Only shame is now I wish I had more of it, I like how it turned out so much!

DG - I was reading that that bush can be propagated from cuttings - would you like some?

I like the different types of edging. I am trying to research some ideas for my garden areas as well. For the curved beds I have the black plastic edging which is ok, but it moves and weeds and grass still grow under and over it. I saw a cool edge with slate stones making a 90 degree angle so there was some flat area and some mulch holding. Unfortunately I did not get a picture of it and it was in NJ where slate is a bit cheaper.
