Induction range with double ovens?
Comments (2)AFAIK, the Electrolux slide-in induction range is the only one that claims to have a second oven. The lower oven looks like the warming drawer on other induction ranges but, IIRC, is supposed to get up to 450F. It runs off a 120v circuit and is basically the same kind of thing as a countertop oven. CHeck out the Elux threads for opinions on how well it does or does not work. For double pizzas in a single oven, I suggest using convection and using well-preheated baking stones or pizza baking steels, one placed in the upper quarter and one in the bottom quarter of the oven.. If you haven't heard about steel plates for baking pizzas, check out the ModernistCuisine book or web site. There also has been some discussion of the baking steels in the forums/blogs at ModernistCuisine.com and at chowhound.com. Comments (5)The shop owner, I'm afraid, doesn't know what he's talking about. The clicking is associated with increased heat. Not only does the cookware buzz softly after the click, but whatever I'm cooking sizzles louder, then softer after the buzzing stops. When I complained about it here, kaseki posited that KA used "low cost mechanical relay" instead of solid state to modulate the heat. Hence, the magnets turn on and off, and the pot gets hotter and cooler. It cooks just fine for my purposes, but it definitely isn't built the same way as all other induction units. Ask the shop owner about this and tell me if his eyes glaze over. Of course, it's possible KA changed this after we all started calling customer service. This is a link to my original complaint, when I was in shock after I'd used it in the morning stillness for the very first time, and you can see kaseki's explanation. The noise doesn't bother me much anymore, to be honest. I guess you can adapt to anything. Or maybe I'm losing my hearing from accompanying underage DD to rock concerts ;-) Here is a link that might be useful: Noisy KA induction...See MoreTwo new double-oven induction ranges: Maytag v Whirlpool?
Comments (6)I think you'd be pleased. I've used the cooktop on hers and it is awesome. She bakes a lot. She cooks a lot. Her whole family cooks. Constantly. It's like a religion for them. Everyone loves the Whirlpool. It hums a bit more loudly than my Bosch cooktop, which barely makes a sound. But it is only a hum and last time I asked her about it, she gave me a blank look. She had ceased to notice it. But I think the two ranges are about the same -- go to AJMadison and download the manuals for both and you'll see what I mean -- so you should choose based on looks and price, I think. I am just glad to see good induction ranges at this price point....See MoreInduction range and one wall oven v induction cooktop and double ovens
Comments (1)While going from cooktop to oven isn't unheard of, it's not a common enough even that I would fret about it. We're with you on ovens. In fact, we're putting in the Bosch swinging door ovens because my wife is short and she has a hard time reaching over a normal oven door. As for single-vs-double. I had a 48" Thermador range two houses ago. I rarely used the second (smaller) oven. However, I moved into a townhouse with double ge ovens (and a ge gas cooktop) and boy I got used to that in a hurry. Yeah, I had to carry a pan to the oven to finish under the broiler or bring the pan of drippings back to the stovetop to make the gravy, but the few extra steps weren't going to kill me. So what we ended up with is the Bosch 688 cooktop and double Bosch ovens....See More- 7 years ago
