Comments (5)The shop owner, I'm afraid, doesn't know what he's talking about. The clicking is associated with increased heat. Not only does the cookware buzz softly after the click, but whatever I'm cooking sizzles louder, then softer after the buzzing stops. When I complained about it here, kaseki posited that KA used "low cost mechanical relay" instead of solid state to modulate the heat. Hence, the magnets turn on and off, and the pot gets hotter and cooler. It cooks just fine for my purposes, but it definitely isn't built the same way as all other induction units. Ask the shop owner about this and tell me if his eyes glaze over. Of course, it's possible KA changed this after we all started calling customer service. This is a link to my original complaint, when I was in shock after I'd used it in the morning stillness for the very first time, and you can see kaseki's explanation. The noise doesn't bother me much anymore, to be honest. I guess you can adapt to anything. Comments (17)I didn't think of this as a double-oven, but I should have. It might just serve. Lots to like about this model. Definitely worth checking out if the expense is not a budget buster compared to the actual double-oven WP model. (Reports here have been that some internet vendor sites have had the Samsung Chef induction offered at $2500 but most other vendors seem to be asking $3100+). There are some design aspects to consider trying to research before making your decision, or at least things that would give me pause until I could sort them out. 1. Most induction ranges, including Samsung's freestanding models, have 19 or 20 settings for the induction hobs. The owner's manual for this one, however, only mentions 10. Don't know whether this is just an instructional artifact of the manual or if the range actually is limited to ten settings as with the WP product with which this discussion started. Might be important if you do much with low temp settings. I think about this because of how frequently I use pressure cookers. 2. The stove-top is more spacious than most other slide-ins, but the trade-off is that the oven vent is a narrow slot on the front of the stove, just beneath the left side of the oven control panel. The concern is that this location might make the oven control panel and the #2 burner knob pretty hot. All the "Flex-Duo" user reports I've seen were about free-standing ranges with the oven vent at the back with a bigger and full-width vent. Maybe the "Chef" model's oven-control-panel has a powerful cooling fan? If so, one wonders: will it be noisy and/or obtrusive? 3. I think I saw something about the 75F max difference that alvieray mentioned, but it may have been about the flex-duo oven on one of Samsung's freestanding radiant smoothtop ranges or possibly about the NE599NOPBSR freestanding induction range which was only marketed in Canada. Both could be worth researching further to get a better handle on how well the flex-duo concept works in practice. Comments (12)Just to update this, I was visiting sis last night for the first time since reno. The Whirlpool is a good looking, well performing range, and they love the ovens. She had turned out some masterpieces for dinner. That said, what she calls a faint hum is a little more than that, to my ear. I bought her 2 pieces of Anolon copper as a kitchen-warming--the same set I bought to use on my Bosch 300 induction top--and the sound is more than a faint hum. I would call it a pulsating rattle or vibration. It is a good deal noisier than when I use the same pots on my Bosch. That said, it is still acceptable. You probably couldn't hear the sound in the adjacent dining room unless the house was dead silent. If Whirlpool was my only induction choice, I'd still take it over gas in a heartbeat. But I don't see why this noise can't be mitigated. Bosch does it. Why do some cooktops make a racket? It's annoying. Comments (2)I had a GE electric double oven range at our last house (7 years) and loved it. It was a big upgrade for me, and I got it half price as a floor model. The small oven was on top which I used most of the time, but that really depends on what you cook. The small oven was just too short for an angel food cake pan to give you an idea on size. The large bottom oven had a hidden element so it was extra big and also had convection which I rarely used, but would have been nice for my 22 lb turkey I made at last TG. It always cooked/baked well, and I never had any problems with it. I always thought the broiler could use a little more power, but I think that is standard for the lower to mid range styles. I do miss having two ovens. The burners on my cheaper Maytag gas oven puts out more heat in the burners though, but even though its cheaper I lost some features like convection for more btu power. I think if you're used to electric you will love the GE. Even though it had a lot of programmable stuff, and my dad always made my 90 year old grandma try to turn it on (which of course she couldn't do) it was a great range. If I had to buy another electric range I would get another GE double oven range in a heartbeat. Just wanted to add the GE was a smooth top with an extra griddle burner or bridge burner going between two burners with an extra warmer small burner in the back. I couldn't use the warmer burned unless I used my smallest pot because of the back control panel but did love the bridge burner for my two burner griddle.
