Desperately need paint advice (pic included)
Comments (13)walkin: You are so kind. I'm in so over my head with this paint project. What was I thinking? I must have been having a Martha Stewart moment. You know when you get this hair up your you know what and think "I can do this". Well at least now I know painting is not a career option. I was following your post about your DS. I hope all is still well. I went through a similar situation when my DS was 5 and poor thing had to endure 2 spinal taps within 10 ten days. It's the worst feeling to be so scared and helpless as a parent. I'm so glad to read he's back to his old self. On a happier note, isn't it a great feeling to walk into your re-designed rooms and just smile? I'm so happy for you!! Please post pictures!! I still get a kick walking into my family room. Enjoy!!! yayagal: I would rather get a root canal w/o novacain before calling him back. I just wanted him out of my house, he was beyond creepy and gross. He came highly recommended, I later found out the recomnendation was 5 years old. Oopss!! You are so sweet to reply and thank you for your kind words. I'll post pictures of the newly painted PR (give me a few weeks, due to painters lead time) ASAP....See MoreIn desperate need of help to finish by xmas
Comments (8)Let's see if I can address/answer: carol from NY: I actually have recovered the chairs but did it when the kitchen was green and it doesn't go now. So I have to find something else to put on there. I actually just used a tablecloth - VERY cheap... The cabinet: We wanted to ditch it b/c it is just not "our style" anymore. We def need to paint it - it is dark green right now. We would only be able to have either the hutch or a sideboard - can;t fit both in the "dining room area" Annz - I had thought of that after the fact of course. Turns out our paint went bad for that color anyway. I also tried to see if there was a way to put a more decorative or beefier molding at the top but it won't work well. Susanak - We decided not to put those prints back int he kitchen their scale was wrong. Can't seem to find anything I like... :-( We do have company coming - they come every year since we moved in. It is our 5th Christmas here. We wanted everything to look good. Not sure about leaving that one with no curtain - but I have considered a black and white... DH said black solid and I said blah. eandhl - I have thought of black and white curtains. The kitchen is the same color as the dining room - it is the dark tan now. I have to look and see if I can find a lantern like thing. I have been looking for something in black wrought iron looking. Comments (14)Judging by how the home looks now. assuming nothing is changing but the floor, i would choose a floor with tones that will draw from both the front door and the dark stairs. Perosnally, i think a walnut would look magnificent. The issue with going grey is that nothing else in the house (stair, front door, etc) have those cool tones so it may be hard to make it work. See attached photos for floors i think would look great....See MoreHelp! Bathroom advice desperately needed
Comments (48)This bathroom is Late Modernism. The undermounted sink in laminate (which usually fails because of water infiltration into the substrate) is late 70s or 80s at the earliest. (The house may be older). So you have to be careful with regards to using midcentury hardware and such. Most of the hardware shown, boomerangs and sparkles etc. are pre-1960 in origin. This bathroom currently looks like what it is supposed to look like. Although it may be an update for the house, this bathroom looks like it did when it was put in and hasn't been updated so it looks as about authentic as it can get. The countertop looks like there may be some damage and separation of the laminate around the rim of the sink, which is typical to this sort of installation, and the faucet is not right. If it is damage, I would replace the countertop with the 20xx's version of what's there, something white with a white sink, get a faucet that is better suited to the vanity and call it done. I would not waste money tarting it up in some faux retro or half-hearted millennial modernism. If someone hates the bathroom as it is, tarting it up won't be enough, and if someone mostly likes it, tarting it up could ruin it for them....See Moreemsy84
