Hi. I had a similar problem, I bought a (spray) can of orange peel about the size of a can of spray paint and just sprayed the trouble spots, primed and then painted the walls. It worked out very well. You can buy it at any home improvement store. Good luck.

nwdrip: Did you spray over the areas that needed it along with the surrounding wall? You can feel and see the difference on my walls. How many layers of primer did you use? Do you have pictures? I'm sorry for inundating you with so many questions but I'm at my wits end. Thank you for your help.

I'm no paint expert, but I'd be afraid areas would continue to peel and come loose, since it isn't adhering well. I was going to suggest using a paint stripper (natural not toxic) and just taking the walls down for a fresh start. I also think it would be fairly easy to take a rotary sander and just resurface the walls, esp with it being only a powder room.

squirrelheaven: I've thought about stripping down the walls and starting over but I'm a bit height challenged. The PR has 9 foot celings and I'm 5 1" on a good day. It also has 9 seperate walls varying in size. I guess I'm doomed to live in this PR for the remainder of the summer. Where would I find natural non-toxic paint remover? I'm a far cry from a DIYer. I actually suggested to DH that it would be easier to drywall over the door and forget there was ever a PR. He's giving me the same look he gave our mentally unstable neighbor.

What is John Bridges? I've never heard of it.

mldao, no I did not spray the whole wall, just the area that had the chipped paint and a little overspray on the surrounding area. I only did one coat of primer and repainted the whole wall not just the area that needed it. I have since repainted the room and to be honest I would have a very hard time trying to find the spots, so a picture would just look like a normal wall. My suggestion to you before you do anything labor/money intensive is to buy the spray and try it, lightly sand the lines so they are smooth, spray the orange peel, prime the wall, and put a couple layers of paint on. Maybe take a few practice sprays on a piece of wood or something to get the feel of how it comes out. I think you will be surprised at how well it works. If it doesn't meet your expectations then try one of the other options. Good luck!

nwdrip: Thanks for your tips. I've been at this for over 7 hours today and I'm throwing in the towel. I'm calling the professionals tomorrow. I think I've spent more money trying to save money by doing it on my own. I'm covered from head to toe in dust, paint and everything's sticking to me. YUCK!!! Thanks again.

Oy, mldao, you poor thing! I have no helpful solutions whatsoever for DIYing a monster like that. I'm so glad you're calling in the professionals. Go take a nice bath (in a different bathroom!) and pat yourself on the back for trying -- more than many would do!

Mldao, have you considered calling the painter who did the job and telling him he needs to rectify the situation? It's worth a try. Good luck with the outcome. Better days are coming.

walkin: You are so kind. I'm in so over my head with this paint project. What was I thinking? I must have been having a Martha Stewart moment. You know when you get this hair up your you know what and think "I can do this". Well at least now I know painting is not a career option. I was following your post about your DS. I hope all is still well. I went through a similar situation when my DS was 5 and poor thing had to endure 2 spinal taps within 10 ten days. It's the worst feeling to be so scared and helpless as a parent. I'm so glad to read he's back to his old self. On a happier note, isn't it a great feeling to walk into your re-designed rooms and just smile? I'm so happy for you!! Please post pictures!! I still get a kick walking into my family room. Enjoy!!!

yayagal: I would rather get a root canal w/o novacain before calling him back. I just wanted him out of my house, he was beyond creepy and gross. He came highly recommended, I later found out the recomnendation was 5 years old. Oopss!! You are so sweet to reply and thank you for your kind words. Thanks for your nice words, both about my little sojourn in the ER and about the living room. I wish I could post pics -- DH has *both* our cameras and he's out of town! But my little fella's himself again, stubborn and peppy and infuriating and adorable in equal measure. I'm so relieved.

mldao, my dh is a commercial paint salesman & he said to get Zinnzer Peel Stop. Comes in gallons and quarts & you use it just like paint. It is a super duper primer and will seal down the edges. Then fix the wall. He thinks you will be happier if you have the whole wall retextured than try to fix a peeled line.

walkin: I'm so glad it was just a little scare and nothing more serious with your son. Maybe he's gearing up for the teen years. My 13DS would sleep until 2:00 in the afternoon if I let him. Hopefully, you'll be able to post your pictures when your DH gets back in town.

My painter isn't available until the second week of August but I'm waiting!! I called him with my tail between my legs. You know, it's similar to getting your haircut by someone other then your normal hairdresser?!? You're trying to come up with really good excuses (lies) as to why you used a different painter. LOL

marti8a: Thanks for your tip but I gave up on Sunday and haven't given it a second thought. If I attempted to work on the PR paint again I think my family would have me institutionalized.
