Patio Furniture-Quality difference between Target vs. High end
Comments (56)I found this thread because I just got off the phone with my wife who informed me that replacement slings for our set of six Telescope chairs will be $780.00! That is a very tough pill to swallow, and like many here we weighed this heavily against just getting a cheaper set from HD, Costco, or any number of stores. Our set is about 10 years old to date (purchased summer of 2010) and the aluminum frames, table, and umbrella have held up extremely well (we do store them inside for winter though). Ultimately, I decided to stick with these and pay the exorbitant price for a few reasons: - The rest of the set is extremely high quality. I feel good each year when I pull it out of storage - heavy duty powder coated aluminum construction that has lasted well and still looks 9/10 after a spring wipe-down. - It does bother me how much importation has changed - pushing us toward a throw-away-away-and-buy-another culture. I do feel like we enjoy additional quality on these American made items (not always the case). - Less and less stuff is American made any more. As an engineer and a maker, I miss the days when we made most of the best stuff here. This set still exemplifies that quality. It's a little thing, but something I rarely get to enjoy these days. - After 10 years, with very little degradation (other than the fabric slings), I know what to expect from this set, and feel confident that they will last another 10 years easily with new fabric. The convenience of going 10-12 years between having to think about this, or take a gamble on something potentially less durable is worth something to me. Surely, I'll be feeling the sting of this bill in about a month (so good thing I'm writing this now!), but I thought I'd share what tipped us to reinvesting in this very expensive set. Comments (19)Maybe it's just me, but I have a thing about footstools and ottomans not being taller than a coffee table. If I add casters, that will make it taller than the table. As it is, it almost looks taller but that's because the fur is all fluffed up! I may still try the painted-on faux caps...worse case scenario, I just repaint over them....See MoreTarget Up & Up Spring Bloom Softener. Great find Mitch!
Comments (57)Hi all! Of course, every time get the chance I sniff all the "Downy"-like FS at the grocery store...yesterday I happened across a new generic or "store brand" - it's called "Simply Done" and the bottle is light blue with the hot pink cap. Scent is called "spring scent" - I think it's also a fairly good match for our old-school Downy, but in all fairness did wash the load first in Liquid Tide with AF Downy. Tonight I'll try a load with unscented soap. Would love it if someone else found it and tried it too - for comparison! The Target softener is also wonderful......See MoreTarget Room Essentials (RE) Kitchen Towels
Comments (17)Mine are mostly white and 3 types. First type are white waffle weave microfiber towels which I love for drying dishes as they have absolutely no lint and dry wonderfully. Second are waffle weave white cotton towels which I think came from Crate & Barrel originally. Those are sturdy and wash well and I use them for draining. I hate dish drainers so the few things I handwash are set on the towel to drip, then dry them. I also use those above the DW to blot anything wet from there while I'm unloading. Then I have the newer vintage French metis towels because they are incredibly sturdy and large. Those cover a big area of the counter and are used for draining. They also double as small cloths to cover most anything needed. I sometimes use them on the upholstered ottoman under a tray when we eat in the TV room. I am fussy about everything, including dish towels. I only use them for drying or draining. Not for hands (I have some 3 gray and white checked towels for that) and not for wiping up anything. I use microfiber cloths for things like wiping up spills. Also don't clean anything with dishtowels as I don't want cleaning solutions on them. I only have 1 flour sack which I use for straining/clarifying. Don't have a hamper but do have a French towel rack I bought on ebay which is great for hanging up dirty and wet towels near the utility closet. They can pile up there until there enough to go into the laundry. The labels are hands, dishes, napkins/placemats and glassware LOL. Maybe it was living in France that made me this way....See MoreRelated Professionals
