Comments (43)PUDDING CUPS: I buy these from time to time for my kids, and the plastic is recycleable in my area, but before I toss in the bin I use them several times each in the summer to make bigger ice cubes for packing coolers or filling the big water jug on outings (or cooling the water for when I am freezing beans/corn), or cut holes in the bottoms and use as little planting pots for some of the seeds I start for my garden. Since they are clear I can tell when cuttings have rooted well. Thanks for coming forward, all of you, and pointing out that although many are striving to be energy wise and cutting back on waste, it is difficult to do it all and still live our lifestyle the way we've been used to. Just today dh took kids into the bigger city close by to buy them shoes, and I asked him to pick up milk on the way home. Pick up milk he did, and he let the clerk bag both jugs! I will speak to him later on this, I don't think he is aware he can ask for his items to NOT be bagged (I do 99% of the shopping in this household, and just assumed he knew how I felt about those plastic bags). Or that anything that size WITH a handle needs no bag! Oh well. I'm still trying to influence change within my own little world (family). kioni...See MoreJust when you think they aren't any more surprises.........
Comments (4)Well, this is more of a re-discovery I guess. For the past 3 summers we have been painting our exterior (basically done as of this Sept). The new paint job has proven how out of place the aluminum storm door on the kitchen looks. I knew the original wood storm door was in the basement, and plan to repaint and replace that in the Spring. BUT, we also have an aluminum storm door on an exit to the balcony off of our second floor master bedroom. It doesn't bother me as much, because from the front of the house it basically matches the 3 aluminum storm windows that are also on the front of the house, if you don't look too closely. A few weeks ago I was in the attic digging through clothes bins for the kids and realized that there is a wooden storm door up there too ~ the only place I can figure it came from is that bedroom door! Yay ~ I never gave that old door a second thought until that moment. We have lived in our house for over 12 years. All of the original storm windows were in the basement, broken off double-hung window weights are in the attic and the original swinging door from the kitchen/pantry are in the attic... I just never noticed that wood storm door before. So now I guess I will have 2 wooden doors to re-paint this spring ;)...See More(Same old song!) The quest for bedsheets that aren't ...
Comments (32)I just returned from a trip to Target to look at the Shabby Chic sheets--very nice. They also have Threshold Percale in 250 count that feel crispy. My favorite sheets came from Target and may be the Percale I saw today. I hadn't recognized them when I tried to buy more--but I think that's what they must be. Wonderfully cool and crispy! Thanks for all the tips, there are many of us who don't like sateen sheets!...See MoreDoes it bother you when someone keeps trying to change your style?
Comments (51)I did design most of the clothes I made, but I made traditional style pants, shirts, and suits for my brother. Normally I make my own patterns. As for changing one's style, when my brother was engaged, he and his fiancé refused to register for gifts because they knew that his fiancés mother would get involved. So I found out what they wanted and registered it for them, as many of their friends didn't know what to buy them. Then the mother found out about this and went to the store and changed ALL the registered items into what SHE wanted instead of what they wanted. So after the wedding, they took back all the unwanted items to the store and exchanged them for what I had registered for them. At the rehearsal dinner, someone asked my brother's MIL what she thought about the dress I had made, and she said, "I liked the bag," because I had made a custom garment bag for it. I did not realize that she was trying to insult me, and I said, "Oh, I've made tons of these." I used to make garment bags for all the dresses I made in San Francisco, but these dresses were mostly sold in New York. When I moved from San Francisco to Austin, I stayed with my sister and BIL for a month, which is when I made clothes for my sister, and I had her pick out the fabrics. I also did all her grocery shopping for her and cooked dinner every evening. The bad thing was that my BIL asked my sister why she did not cook the way I did!...See Moredeeinohio
