I didn't disturb the root ball, untangle or prune the roots. I just placed the root ball into a bigger pot and placed fresh soil around it. I bought the soil at Lowe's it was Timberline Potting Soil. The plant sits in an air conditioned room that's fairly dim, but it's near the door which stays open much of the day with light coming thru the screen door. I just stuck my finger in the soil and felt very little moisture even though we watered thoroughly this morning (the water went straight thru the soil and overflowed the dish underneath onto the floor... I was not happy about that) that's why it was sitting on a towel in the pic. It was leaking everywhere

If you open up the pic you will see a peace lily next to this one that's tall and leggy and full and blooms (we received this one 3 months ago for my mother's funeral) this is how I would eventually like the older one to look...

Get in a windowsill and out of the dimly light air conditioned room if you can.

Untangling the roots at the very least would have helped the plant. Potting up a rootbound plant doesn't really do it many favors. That's why full repots are needed.

depending on where you live, they'll do great in a shady outdoor location, as long as temps stay above 55° at night.

Here are a couple of mine. Both had full repots a couple weeks ago. Fully removing all old soil, untangling and removing some roots and placing in a fresh mix.

OK... I was thinking of maybe dividing the plant into two pots to give it room... What do you think? Can that be done? I don't want to kill it. It's a funeral plant the only one we have from my brother in law's funeral

It can be done, but it's best done when the plant is at its strongest.

I live in South Louisiana. It's hot as the pits of hell here... like 100 during the day (90 right now and there's no sun) maybe 85 at night... This plant does not like the heat at all that's why I have them inside

I live just north of the "pits of hell," haha. Summers in Arkansas can be just as brutal, and humid. The temps here can climb up into the hundreds. That being said, I keep my Spathiphyllum outdoors in an area that gets dappled sun/partly shaded, and I keep it well watered. Right now it's blooming like crazy. Just the other day, I noticed that it has sent out a few more spathes. The hot and humid weather here is not much different than that of its native habitat. As long as they're kept well watered, they don't mind the shaded heat. It probably reminds them of home, so to speak. :)

And of course, a proper well drained mix makes it all possible. We can't evaluate the mix you used (though possibly someone may have encountered it). I will say (negative I know) that most mixes are crap. Even when I buy a mix I rather like, i usually liberally amend with perlite, to help it stay more open (though it will require more water).

Brown tips are most often caused by overwatering. PL needs bright indirect light. Keep away from drafts.

The soil within the root ball may have become water repellent so it could be by-passed by any water you add. To make sure it does get sufficient you can place the pot in a bucket of water to soak for an hour or so and then let it drain right out. That will give the water a chance to penetrate right through the root ball.

Cajungal I agree with Dave that you need a free draining soil. If you do as he says with that soil you have root rot on your hands quick.

Peace Lilly's like moist but not wet soil. Avoid the 511 mix.

Don't listen to Anthony. 5:1:1 would be absolutely fine for a peace lily.

I use 511 for everyone of my PL and they are thriving. So again, use a fast draining soil like the 511, it doesn't have to be 511. Unfortunately most bagged brands are not fast draining.

I have never had a case of root rot. A soil that gradually drys out over about one week is good.
