how do I save my garden from weed and feed
Comments (12)Your plants are toast . Get rid of the lawn service . They don't know what they are doing . Live with dollar weeds . If you even have dollarweed right now during a drought ? That means you are watering too much . It is a wet season weed . From UF : During a dry season - " Irrigate to wet the soil deeply (8"-12") and less frequently. Avoid light frequent irrigations. Monitor stress carefully. Wait until 60% of turf shows stress to initiate an irrigation. Irrigate early morning or late at night. Over watering when water use is permitted does not improve the quality of the turf. Watch for dry spots and irrigate them with a hose, if permitted." Take care of the lawn yourself . Become knowledgeable . Know your chemicals and know your people who are the applicators . Make them show you their pesticide applicator's license and proof of insurance . If they kill your plants with over spray - they are liable for the damage . Good luck collecting though ! Treat your garden as you would your body . Know exactly what you are putting on it or in it just as you would want to know about the side effects of pills you put in your mouth . Sorry to come down hard on you . Learn from this and be motivated to know as much as possible about what is being done to your property . It is being done to you too at the expense of your wallet and your health and that of the environment and ultimately - to all of us . ....See MoreHow Do I Stop CeCe From Digging in My Flower Pot?
Comments (19)I was thinking along the lines of some screen material, possibly the stuff you put down to block weeds on top and maybe some rocks on top although he might still play with the rocks, IDK. Cats usually don't like the smell of vinegar so a little cup of vinegar in there would likely keep him away. Even a vinegar dampened rag would still keep some smell there and not smell around the room. Another deterrent is a squirt gun, squirt bottle or a spray bottle set to stream and give a squirt when he goes near it. After a few times of getting wet, he probably will stay away from it, although if you leave for a while, he might just forget!...See MoreHow do I stop my kids from bullying their stepfather?
Comments (13)I agree with almost all of what has been written above. YOU need to fix it NOW. You're 3.9 years overdue, plus your girls are at a particularly nasty age. It'll be ten times as hard now as it would have been 4 years ago. Sit them both down in a place with no distractions and lay down the law. I'd try it with both together, but if that won't work, divide and conquer. Maybe talk to them in the car at the side of the road or in a parking lot (stomping distance from home?) -- whatever it takes to get them to listen. Keep your rules simple and short, and set the bar realistically low. In other words, they are not required to be nice, but are absolutely required to be civil. Dinner will be eaten together at the family table, and anyone who doesn't want to eat, doesn't eat. (Period. Get a cheap plastic locker and padlock if needed.) All questions will be answered in a polite manner. (Ask Hubby to keep them minimal at first.) Make a written list of your rules and post them on the wall. Also pre-determine consequences for breaking the rules -- loss of computer, phone, gaming, TV, iPod, piano, activities -- and FOLLOW THROUGH. Make your punishments short but severe. Since their behavior has become habitual, maybe come up with a 'warning' signal you can give them so that they can turn it around before losing a privilege. Now on the BioDad. He needs to understand that by encouraging them to behave that way, he is turning his children into little monsters. They are already disrespecting you; it won't be long before they turn their disrespect on HIM. And on anyone else who displeases them -- teachers, friends, coworkers and bosses. He is doing them NO FAVOR and actually causing them quite a bit of damage. You may want to gather some hard evidence of Dad's support before launching your 'fix' campaign. Why? Because I'm guessing YOU will not be able to change Dad's mind, no matter how persuasive your speech, because a Dad who does that isn't thinking clearly. But try to persuade him. Give him a chance and ask for his help in turning the girls' behavior around. Maybe write him an email? Several? And if he refuses, drag his butt into court because a judge will straighten him out pretty quick. Family court judges see this kind of thing a lot and have very little tolerance for this kind of carp. Maybe ask for court-ordered counselling and compliance monitoring? Or ask that if Dad won't comply, that he lose unsupervised contact with the girls? Frankly, I'm surprised your husband has put up with this as long as he has....See MoreHow do I take back my garden from the WEEDS?
Comments (16)I've seen the homemade weed killer spray recipe on social media for quite a while now. Some recipes say to use epsom salts and some say to use rock salt. Neither of which are really necessary. Just spray with straight vinegar on a sunny day and keep it well away from any desirable plants. You'll almost certainly have to spray again though, especially for established perennial weeds, since vinegar just kills the foliage and not the roots (perhaps it might kill the roots if you completely douse the soil with it but that is not advisable). If you can't pull the weeds from around your rock walls I'm going to suggest a propane torch to burn them. Either a big one that connects to a 20# propane tank or use a smaller handheld one meant for soldering pipes. Be very careful when using so you don't burn yourself or start a fire. As with the vinegar, you might have to burn them again if they are established weeds. For large areas you can smother the weeds with paper or cardboard topped with mulch (grass clippings, leaves, hay, straw, cocoa bean shells, and the like). Rodney...See Morem_gold
