I'm stuck! Does this look okay?
Comments (12)I probably COULD cut the windows out, however, they will just be empty spaces. I can't hollow out the whole 4X4. I wanted to work on this today but I decided to dig into the valances I have to make. I'm not having fun. MIL gave me fabric that they picked up for Vacation Bible School to use in the center of the tables. So everything is cut length wise already and her windows are large and it's an old house so none of them are the same width. I can't double the fabric like I should because I would end up having to sew two pieces together and she doesn't want a seam. I'm not getting paid and I don't have the money right now to buy something to line them so she's getting what she's getting. Why do people that can't sew think it's really easy to take fabric and whip up exactly what they want. I mean, if you don't have enough fabric, you don't and you're kind of screwed! LOL She probably won't notice that they're not right but I KNOW! Back to work.......See MoreI'm stuck on this bad idea....
Comments (28)Thanks, Leela -- I actually do love the look of the cherry with the bamboo. We have cherry doors busily darkening away, and slightly-toasted floors -- possibly a shade darker than yours, but still a fine contrast. OK, Lavender and allfood -- pantry and utility door are cherry. That's done. Boxer -- thank you for your lovely encouragement. I just love the tone you give. And of course those concrete pictures are priceless. [how *do* you find them all????]. I do just sharp-breath-intake love those bamboo kitchens. *But*: I'm ready to believe it will mix well with cherry, as you-all say. I do think it's not worth fighting with dh about because it's not as if I *don't* like the cherry. Plus, I think we've decided the fossiliferous stone I liked isn't going to be hard enough (it generated massive amounts of flaked white powder during the acid-tests; I guess that's just stone going away, dissolving, and in a few years that might be a bit of a problem....). So that puts us to rainforest green which is wild and dark, and I think the cherry would be less of a shock next to it; less busy - there will be busy-enough in the coutertop. Maybe I'm just rationalizing -- I'm just not certain-enough of how the bamboo would work to put my foot down about it. Maybe the remaining bathroom.... Anyway, thanks, boxer, for your strong supportive voice! And many others above, too. OK, that's one choice down I think.......See MoreI'm So Stuck - Can You Help? Please??????
Comments (21)I really want to thank you all for your help and suggestions - you really motivated me and I'm putting your thoughts to good use! This afternoon I started painting and moving a few things into her room. I choose Meadowbrook by Ace for the walls and immediately fell in love. So much so that I called DH at work to tell him. I snapped a few pics for you to see even though the walls were still wet in some places. While painting I decided that the accent color would definitely be soft pinks and red raspberry shades. Meadowbrook wall paint. I think that the wall color looks wonderful w/ the maple wood furniture and love how it plays w/ the crisp white trim. Meadowbrook is 2 shades darker than Woodlawn (which is my MBR wall color) and is the closest match (w/o colormatching) to F&B's Pale Powder. I am definitley going to do the white IKEA curtains doubled up as someone suggested in their post! I'm going to try matchstick blinds layered underneath to pick up the wood tones in the furniture. Like I said - this room gets blinding light. Do you think that pink and berry accents will work w/ this wall color? After reading some of the thoughts about kids possibly being creeped out by staring owl eyes I went back and looked at the James Brown art and came up w/ some of these prints. Any catch your fancy for the room?: Here is a close up of the bedskirt and the pillows have a small ruffle of the same check for a border.: I found a small old wooden birdcage in the basement that I thought I could spraypaint white or berry and put butterflies and birds in and hang in a corner. Lame? I still really like the 'foresty' idea and thought I could run w/ it in an 'Enchanted Forest' girlie way (not a Harry Potter way). I can get her a white stuffed owl for her bed! Crazy thought - tell me if I'm taking it too far - What about painting the bureau a soft pink or raspberry color? Too much? Oh - and my mom called today to say that she found the sweetest antique childs rocker for $15 that she bought for her!...See MoreI'm stuck. Can you help with countertops?
Comments (18)Whiteriversooner, Don't give up yet. You might discover a great granite at a local slab yard. Plan your granite shopping day. Make appointments or map out your trip. I drove hours away to look for my granite. Bring a camera, a giant coffee or ice coffee with you, A good flashlight, a note book or cell phone to write notes with names, your favorite paint swatch fabric or color you know you want to use, a slab door or drawer front and a sense of humor. Shop until you drop. Have the Granite Yard people move slabs around until you find the one you love. And then put a deposit on it. Photograph it. Okay, so lets say you can not find the one you love. Make friends with the Slab yard people. Be CHARMING. They will keep an eye out for you and text pics when they have a new shipment. And then you get the first chance to see them before they are put on the floor. Here are some images of kitchens with glazed cabs. Maybe these ideas can help you too. I love your cabs, whatever you find it going to be stunning. Think about the backsplash too.
