Comments (9)slugs eat holes, but don't skeletonize leaves could also be caterpillars found this: Bean Leaf Beetle Bean leaf beetles are chewing bugs that attach themselves to the leaves of the green bean plants and eat pieces out of the leaves. Measuring 1/4 inch long, this beetle is yellowish-green in color and has four black spots on its back. Bean leaf beetles spend the winter in the foliage in wooded areas and emerge in early summer. Keep these green-bean-plant-eating bugs under control by removing dead leaves and foliage from the ground. If you think you may have a bean leaf beetle infestation, confirm the infestation by looking for beetles on your bean plants between 12:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., as this typically warm time of day is when the beetles feed. Comments (10)Rabbits' eating habit is very obvious, they will eat things in whole, from top to bottom, some time leaving nothing behind. Summer insects will make holes. Snails, slugs will start (usually) from the outer most leaves, will eat the tender parts, leaving behind the vains. Also, snail/slugs need a bigger plants to munch on, because they hang on the leaves and start chewing them. Since you are in zone 9 probably you have snails, sluggs or both. SLUGGO, as I have heard is a safe organic cure for snal/slug problem. OR, if you find out that you have snails, you may consider hunting them and eating them. As the saying goes: IF YOU CANNOT BEAT THEM, EAT THEM(Grin !)...See Morewho is ripping up my moss and how do I stop it??
Comments (4)I know the frustration. In my yard, this kind of digging is caused by skunks primarily. At other times of the year, turkeys can cause similar disturbances. I find that squirrels only mess with my plants or containers when they're stashing seeds or nuts for the winter. Raccoons, however, are monsters! They dig deep into containers, and they tear whole plants out of containers. They also knock things over, even if they're not looking for food. Anyhow, my money's on the skunk. Our skunks have been very active for the past month. Josh...See MoreNHBabs z4b-5a NH
