Transportation will cause doors/drawers to need adjustment. An installer "to do". "Trim pieces were missing and our retailer told us trim only comes with "kitchen" cabinets, but not with "bathroom" cabinets." >> Even with kitchens (pick ANY brand), you don't get trim. It's a line item. The dealer selling you the cabinetry specifies, budgets, and orders any and all trim. "Three others that were also made incorrectly were not replaced." >> Sounds like the dealer didn't order something correctly OR didn't (doesn't) know the product they sell, whereby "over selling it". "We are adding felt stickers to many areas where one door bumps into another or into the wall. Drawers on one side cannot open without hitting drawer handles on opposite walls." >> 100% a designer error. I sold Shiloh years ago. They'll NOT proof your order. Order a cabinet too big... that's on the dealer. Even if the (submitted) plan says 30" wide, they'll make a 36" IF you order 36". "Poorly designed, poor construction, real wood, but so is balsa wood. These cabinets will not last a lifetime and will not hold all of our kitchen items. Several shelves are unusable because of false drawer fronts added where doors should have been." >> Again, I was a Shiloh dealer... and yes... they have their issues. But I cannot throw them under the bus for issues that could've been, should've been, addressed by the dealer/designer. Most of your complaints should be directed to them. Often the problem begins with the designer/dealer/retailer. They fail to educate the homeowner/buyer as to what they're actually getting. If you're told Shiloh is high-end custom... it's not, they're lying. If there are design flaws, that's the designers fault . If the cabinet is flawed, that's on Shiloh. I used to show homeowners the difference between (then) Shiloh and true custom. There is a contrast in quality and (should be) price. All the best in remedying your issues. Jerry

We had about four different types of foam sealant. The DAP water-based stuff was the easiest to use overall because it didn't expand like it wanted to take over the world. But it does set up more slowly and it was the most likely to fall off the ceiling! I found that doing a little bit at a time helped. Big heavy wet globs don't stay put. Smaller ones do just because there's more surface tension, or something. The other brand was the "Great stuff" or something like that---the 'big gap' sticks well, I think because you just spray the normal amount but then it expands a LOT. I think it skins over as it's expanding so it sticks way better. It seems to set up or dry a lot faster than the DAP stuff. The one for windows & doors is about the same as the one for big gaps as far as sticking well and the rate of expansion. The thing I don't like about the ones that expand a lot is that it's really hard to gauge how much to apply. I usually overdo it and then have to trim off the excess after it's set up. I use a serrated bread knife to saw it off at the ceiling surface and this is tricky and tiring. But i'd rather spray more than less and not have to worry that I left any little gaps.

MZ, our kitchen is approximately 12x18. It is at the end of a longer room. It is all angles, so the cost would not be the same for a kitchen that size that isn't. The cabinets themselves are square. I can tell you that we did get estimates from Lowes and couple other places that have stock cabinets. I can't remember the exact costs, but they were all in the same ballpark. With Spencer cabinets, we got lots of custom designing so that we got what we wanted where we wanted it. Also cost will depend upon the wood, finish and the insides of the cabinets and drawers. If you plan to do rock countertops, ask Dottie for the name of the fabricator that they recommend. His name is Chris, but I don't have the name of his company handy. He did a fantastic job on all the angles - matched everything so much it is hard to find the seams. We have green iron soapstone.

@enduring - I have been searching for a sink/vanity for my powder room. I am in love with this idea I love the idea of an integrated sink. I haven’t found someone who can make this for me yet - except in marble in Italy! I have a contractor who can make me a floating counter - with a vessel sink. I’d rather not have a vessel sink though. I just found this photo today This marble sink made me think of soapstone - which made me think about your soapstone sink. I LOVE natural soapstone. What would you rank the difficulty of your sink project compared to other diy projects you’ve completed - on a scale of 1-10? How experienced of a diy’er were you at the time? I know that you’ve renovated at least two bathrooms - were these your first projects? Due to some serious health issues, I’m not confident that I could take on a project like this - but I may be able to find someone who would (my nephew) - depending how terribly diffcult your soapstone sink was to create. I know that I’ve asked you about your sink before - but I don’t think that I asked you this question. Thanks!
