Hardware question - what to use on trash pull out - knob or pull?
Comments (7)I used a pull.... and I borrowed another GW-er's idea to use a larger size than on my other drawers. It's 7 or 8" long, so I hang by dish towel on it (right across from the sink). That way dirty/wet hands grab the towel and don't get the pull and cabinet dirty :) It works reeeeaaaaallly well, though I did have to find a knob/pull line that had lots of different sizes. I used Restoration Hardware. FWIW I have knobs on my cabinet doors, and pulls on my drawers. Since the trash is like a big drawer, this made sense to me. And- looks great!...See More15' trash pull out questions
Comments (9)Mooring - good points about changing it to a two-bin later if I need to. My own personal reasoning behind the stinky issue is that, with a stand alone can, there is always a lid. In a pull-out, there is no lid, so it would *seem* that the smell would end up inside the cabinet and impregnate adjacent cabinets. I'm not saying this is accurate, just my own mind wandering sense of it. My own needs are that we seem to have a lot of garbage, and we do have a fair amount of CANS. Beer, pop, etc. I think I'll stick with the one can pull-out and shoot for putting a can bin under my sink for now. Of course, maybe the reason my garbage is so stinky is because it holds so much it has a change to smell a lot. In this case, two smaller cans would be better, and we'd have to change them more often, thus reducing the smell. BUT... garbage bags do cost money, so do I want to be buying twice the garbage bags? (I'm sure they'll be skyrocketing since there is plastic involved and oil prices, of course, must affect plastic prices)...See MoreNeed help, trash pull-out hardware, where and what type?
Comments (2)The pull on my trash pull-out is a knob, but it's mounted on the recessed panel of the door, and works fine. I think I had to use a shorter screw, but you could also put a thin piece of wood on the back of the door, to use the screws that come with the pulls, and to reinforce the door panel. Adding: When I first installed the pull-out, I had a cup pull with the extra piece of wood on the back, but later changed to a knob to match the sink cabinet knobs....See MoreUndersink Trash Pull-Out Pulls
Comments (17)Here ya go gardenweb discussion on electric trash pullout I thought mine was Hafele but it's probably the Blum servodrive shown in the video referenced in that link. I think the cost installed with Dutchwood was $250. Ikea used to have a Utrusta (also referenced on that website) for much cheaper but I've heard that the installation is a little tricky. I don't know if it is still available or not. You will need to have an outlet in your sink which you may have anyhow for the GD. HTH...See Morejaviwa
