I have the same 15" pullout coming in my island. I currently have an undersink version in my old, soon to be torn out kitlchen. I use 2 bins, because I recycle everything that is recyclable. I love it, and am looking forward to having it in my island below the prep space. You can simply pull it out and scrape trimmings, etc from the counter into the bin. I don't worry about stinky garbage, if I put something smelly in there, I take it out sooner. Also, I usually try to freeze meat/chicken scraps that I'm not going to use for stock before I throw them in the garbage, gives you a little time cushion before getting smelly.
If you recycle (we have curbside recycling here), I would definitely get the 2 bin pullout. If it's not important to you, then the one should be great.

We have a trash pullout and a 2-bin recycling pullout. I love it. The garbage is only a problem is we let stuff sit there a long time. For normal use, it is great. If we were renovating again, we would go the same route.

I have a 15" 2-bin pullout, and love, it. Like bikey, we recycle a ton, and have the luxury of being able to put all cans/bottles/plastic/paper into one bin, so having a can in the kitchen was essential. I wouldn't want a larger trash can, since it would mean sacrificing the recyling, and if it were any larger, it might get a bit stinky before it was full enough to want to bother emptying it. But there are only 2 of us.

Another vote for the 2 bin pullout. You'll want that 2nd bin for recycling. RE smell - Are you getting a garbage disposal? Could you put some of the potentially smellier items down it? Just a thought - best wishes!

Ours goes out often enough not to smell, and like twobengalsandme, I have it taken out fairly soon if I put in something guaranteed to smell. I also love the 2 bins, 1 for garbage and 1 for recycle. Our recycle used to sit around the sink until someone was forced to take it out. Now it's immediately out of sight. We have an 18", but we have 10 people.

Definitely do the two bins. I have that and it works great for us. Second bin is recycling. When I have a party where there is going to be lots of trash (paper plates & such), I use the second bin for trash instead of recycling so that we don't have to take it out as often during the party.

Also, we take out our trash pretty much every night. There's just about always something in there that might smell if left in there so it's just best to go ahead and take it out. If you have the one larger bin, you're going to feel like it's a waste to empty it every night, half empty. Resisting that will cause your prediction to come true: your trash will stink.

No contest, get the two smaller bins.

I have the 15in pullout with one bin. It's fine. It doesn't get stinky. Presumably, *your own nose* would let you know when it's time to empty the trash. (Quite honestly, I don't understand that argument against pullout trash cabinets.)

My recyclables go in bins in the garage. They have to be sorted anyway, and a single bin isn't enough.

I think you should look at your own needs. Do you have a lot of recyclables? Do you have a lot of trash? Do you have more of one than the other or about equal amounts of both? If the single bin turns out to be the wrong choice, how much would it cost to change it out in a year or so?

My own personal reasoning behind the stinky issue is that, with a stand alone can, there is always a lid. In a pull-out, there is no lid, so it would *seem* that the smell would end up inside the cabinet and impregnate adjacent cabinets. I'm not saying this is accurate, just my own mind wandering sense of it.

My own needs are that we seem to have a lot of garbage, and we do have a fair amount of CANS. Beer, pop, etc. I think I'll stick with the one can pull-out and shoot for putting a can bin under my sink for now.

Of course, maybe the reason my garbage is so stinky is because it holds so much it has a change to smell a lot. In this case, two smaller cans would be better, and we'd have to change them more often, thus reducing the smell. BUT... garbage bags do cost money, so do I want to be buying twice the garbage bags? (I'm sure they'll be skyrocketing since there is plastic involved and oil prices, of course, must affect plastic prices)

I have the two bin pullout and a compactor. The two bins are used for cans and paper recycling. Since the recycling items are not dirty, when the bins are emptied, the garbage bags are reused. If you have the two bins in the same place rather than one under the sink, then it is also more convenient. Good Luck!
