Question about Thunderbird for email

I want to size up the font in the list of messages. Is it correct that I have to get an "add-on" to do this? Seems like overkill for a simple adjustment. Here's what the add-on promotion says:

Not sure about global, user interface, design your own browser, etc. All I want to do is make the font bigger, not change the world.
