Comments (15)I'm having trouble getting mine to grow. I ordered a live plant about 12in tall in May it was growing very well inside so in the beginning of July I transplanted it outside in a spot that gets shade in the morning but full sun from around noon until sunset. At first I was Worried it was going to die as some of the lowest leaves turned yellow. With some extra watering and a little miracle grow things turned around. However it really hasn't gotten much bigger. There are a few new leaves at the top but the plant can't be more than 18inches and show no signs of flowering. Something is also eating the leaves!! I have never had trouble growing plants before but this year it's all I've had! Can anyone tell me what might be eating the plant and how to make it stop? Should I just leave it alone, hope it blooms and comes back next year? Should I dig it up and re-pot it keeping it inside and try planting outside again next year? Thanks for your help in advance!!...See MoreDawn...question about your Angel's Trumpet
Comments (21)Dawn, Thanks for the info on the brugs and daturas! I have grown white single flowered daturas for years. Mine come back from the roots. I grew from seed two different varieties of the single white last year and they also came back from the roots this year. I recently planted some datura seeds, some are doubles, I think in purple and yellow. I am curious if they will grow as big as the single whites and if they will winter over? My seeds are barely up now. I love datura and brugmansia and am glad to know that other Okies grow them as well! Hope to see many blooms this year!!! ***Grannygreenthumb***...Do you know what Garden Center the lady has in Tulsa that you got your brug from? I live in Tulsa and wonder if she sells them here? How is your brug since you planted it in the ground? ***Beerhog*** Are you in zone 7a or 7b?? I planted three brugs in the ground this year and am debating on leaving them in the ground. I have sandy soil. This is my first year to grow them. I am growing many from cuttings and will keep them in pots until they are bigger. Do yours in the ground grow as tall as your picture every year and bloom well?? I have heard if they freeze to the ground they take longer to bloom. Let me know if you have any other tips growing them. Great job!!! Joyce...See MoreAngel Trumpet/Brug: What to do with your stick
Comments (6)And just to illustrate the above points.... Pictures! The drilled bucket method: Here you can see a young cutting about to be transplanted from it's winter home to a pot to go into the ground. 05/23/03 First bloom, 6/23/03 Really putting on a show, 8/21/03 Pruning Day: This is how I cut mine back. I like to keep at least two Y's. Sometimes three. Bucket Closeup: As you can see, the roots grow right on out through the holes and anchor the plant in the ground very well. Rooted sticks: Full trunks all the way down to tips can be rooted. Generally, the harder wood cuttings root easier than the green wood, but each individual plant may have it's own peculiarities. Just pay attention and try something else if they start to rot. Check often in the first few days to see how they handle it. I think it works pretty well if you can handle the plants when they get this big. *grin*...See MoreUser
