Good luck with yours theanimala. I'm with you on the regular Electrolux over the Icon. To correct some of my earlier comments, I looked at the regular Electrolux again at Lowes last night. It does have a grill below the control panel that vents directly out into the room and there are vent holes at the top and bottom of the door that apparently draw air from the kitchen down between the door panels and out the bottom. I guess this is to keep the door cool??? Then I went to look at the other ovens on display. All have some venting at the top but many are smaller than the one on the Electrolux and some have small louvers to direct it up or down. Most of the ovens, including my Dacor, also have slots above the oven box (between the broiler and the control panel) that line up with slots in the section of the door when the door is closed. It looks like the air flows from above the oven box, then down between the door panels and out the bottom. Does anyone know if there's a major difference in functionality between the two methods? I'm pretty much sold on the regular Electrolux as long as it doesn't make the kitchen significantly hotter than other models. As to my concern about the continuous gap between the glass panels on the Icon door, I had to laugh when I justlooked at my Dacor oven and it had the exact same thing. ALL the ovens have vents, thus the ability to get gunk between the layers of glass but this does give a little easier access. I guess reading a post about someone getting gunk between the glass of their brand new Meile made me a little paranoid. OTOH, the glass on my oven door is black so you wouldn't be able to see any gunk between the panels anyway. I'd still be a little nervous about all that open access to glass on the Icon.

I looked at the Bosch and Electrolux. For some reason, I had it in my head that JennAire was not good value and/or quality/reliability (I started researching last fall so I don't remember all my reasoning or sources). I ordered the regular Electrolux on Monday. I like the smooth rolling racks, covered element and controls. Those set it apart from the Bosch for me. I have a note in my appliances spreadsheet that the Bosch racks seemed flimsy to me in person. You may to check out the GE Monogram which I thought were nice but too square for me, so maybe what you are looking for.

Concerns are performance, frequency of repairs (hopefully low to none), and ease and cost of getting repairs. This final concern is one that leads my husband to think the GE might be a better choice. I quickly regretted the purchase of a GE oven. (Long story, short: Inconsistent and spotty temps, not holding heat, regaining heat by going into preheat mode and burning the tops of things... It was 'working properly as engineered.' They took my oven back but another avid baker here on the forum experiencing the same issues got no help or refund from GE, even though we were concurrently communicating with the same person.) Just after I bought it, I spoke to my favorite appliance tech (not good timing on my part) and he said they had trouble getting GE to send parts in a timely manner and that they were expensive compared to others. --Just trying to say that GE may be the opposite of what your husband hopes. Elux gets such overwhelming kudos on the appliance forum from members whose opinion I trust, that of your choices, that's where I'd lean. But I've also seen mostly favorable reports from Bosch owners on the current Bosch ovens.

Just thought I'd comment on my Electrolux double oven. Bought it in February of this year and it is a good looking oven. However, after 8 months of rare use, it isn't heating up all the way (neither oven). Luckily, I'm still under warranty. It turns out that Electrolux asks that the ovens be removed from the wall in order to have their repairman repair it. The removal, of course, is not covered by the warranty. I'm so upset; never had this problem with Kitchenaid repairs. Don't understand why I have to pay to remove the oven from the wall in order to have it repaired, WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY. For this reason alone, I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND ELECTROLUX double ovens.
