How loud is the Speed Queen washer/dryer
Comments (13)One caveat...which is really a non-issue because EVERYONE who buys a Speed Queen does it. Government regs require that Speed Queen deliver their conventionally-designed machines with a fill-limiter that only "fills" the tub about 70% of actual full. Problem solved in about five minutes by removing three screws on the panel, tilting it forward, and adjusting a 1/4" limiter screw so that it fills all the way. Several youtube videos show how it's done. With zero previous experience, I accomplished this in minutes. Small deal, IMHO. After you do this, the tub will fill ALL the way when set to "full" but still allow smaller-fills by adjusting the panel-dial normally. I regard this gov't limit as quite ridiculous but that's what the manufacturer is saddled with. EVERYBODY who buys one of these machines does it. Otherwise, I would say the machine operates pretty much exactly like those Maytags of old except that 1) the tub is bigger 2) the agitation is better 3) the thing digests unbalanced spin-loads much better and 4) all rinses are tap-cold....no option for "warm" rinses....See More2015 Speed Queen washer/dryer
Comments (8)Electronic controls are far more reliable than mechanical controls. But like everything if designed poorly they will fail prematurely. All automobiles and commercial aircraft today are fly by wire and are loaded with electronic controls. Just think anti-locking breaks, solid state ignitions, fuel injection, and automatic transmissions and we don't think about reliability. Speed Queen increased their warranty by two years with units that have electronic controls. That should say something about their faith in electronic control reliability. Even the dome membrane keypad used is typically rated for at 1 million keystrokes and the good ones are rated at over 10 million keystrokes. And I know Speed Queen has been using electronic controls for years in their Horizon series commercial washers used in laundry mats that I am sure see far more abuse than home use would subject these machines to....See MoreSpeed Queen Washer/dryer
Comments (16)Also, Yuna, FWIW, I bought my unitized SQ just as the model was changing over from analog to digital. I had special ordered it just in time to get the analog, as I really felt digital would be a problem. The remodel took three months, and by the time we were ready to take delivery on the SQ, it turned out my dealer had, of his own volition, changed my order to digital. It was quite a mess, in part because my cabinetry was already in, and the new unit was a lot taller than we’d planned for. (Luckily, my contractor redid everything no cost to me because I had used the appliance dealer of his preference.) However, when I complained to my dealer very loudly, he said that the machine I had ordered (analog) had only a one year warranty, and that to encourage people to move to the new machine (digital) Speed Queen was upgrading the warranty to five years. At least, that is what my almost 60-year-old brain recalls. It may not be correct. Perhaps you do indeed have a five year warranty. Another problem was the fact that as a part of the model changeover, Speed Queen decided that they would no longer warranty the unitized machine for second floor installations. I found it in the fine print AFTER my machine was installed and running! Oh, I was HOT. You can read more about this in the archives if it matters, but the short story is, yes, I got a full five year warranty. At least, I hope I do. I made the dealer and the distributor put it in writing, or I was going to make them pull the machine out. But a few years from now, who knows what they will claim?...See MoreOur new Speed Queen FF7 front load washer - observations
Comments (27)" During the spin cycles it shook so violently that it started "walking." I had to push on it/hold it during the spin so it would not walk off the pad." I have not had this happen in two years of owning our SQ FL. I know nothing about installation because our vendor always installs for us. Our machine recently made some really loud noises when the load was unbalanced --- only two items: a heavy looped cotton bath mat & toilet mat on the spin cycle. I knew better, but had a senior moment when I ran that load with just two pieces. But the machine didn't move or walk (and IKWYM about "walking"....old top load machines would do that, too) I paused the machine to add a terrycloth towel to provide more weight distribution for balance, and then the machine was happy....See Moresahai6
