Thanks Mr. Millar, "this area of the world" might have meant the entire U.S.A. or North America, I'm glad you finally narrowed it down to just Michigan. I suppose I should just assume all the incorrect things you spout only apply to your specific tiny spot in the world. Remember when you made this grand pronoucement? "Compost piles that freeze in cold weather have too much moisture in them." It would have been funny if you had not been serious. It appears you might be trying to be somewhat more accurate by including a reference to geography and climate, you're almost there. It took a few years but you are getting a bit better, I have hope that eventually you'll get it correct. ;-) Lloyd

My fig tree is in 4th year and growing well. This year it went from 4 feet to 8 feet and produced many figs in late Oct. I have covered it in past years. Should I do the same each year? If so what can I use to cover such a large plant? It is in the south east corner of my home in a boxed out alcove, protected on 2 sides, with two 3' other plants in front of it. What do you think. Thank you.

This is fabulous. Three of the wonderful things I have learned since I was fortunate enough to discover gardening: 1. Nothing grows on the mountaintop. We must have valleys to grow. 2. Momma birds have to kick baby birds out of the nest, or they will never fly. Momma squirrels are smart to destroy the nest so no one can come back to it. 3. You have to have darkness to grow. Never pray away your bad times. Learn from them. The people across the street do everything I do to my yard. They mow, water, feed correctly. Their yard is full of weeds and weak...mine is beautiful. The difference? They shine a 100 watt bulb in their street light every nite, all nite. I have 60 watts and it goes off at 2am every morning. It has to have darkness to grow.

I think Ken got sidetracked like I almost was. By hitting the Kurt Driesilker video on the first page of the .pdf it took you to a page that repeated all the videos and the first one (Neil Diboll) takes a whole page and the natural instinct would be to hit "Run" on that one. Recognizing Neil from back in the late 90's I knew that wasn't it and scrolled down.
