I have Persil Powder for Colors (European) and Ariel (also European). Not sure if they have any oxygen bleach in them. Do you think peroxide would work on the stain?

If it is a white shirt I can see no harm in pouring peroxide directly on the stain. The powder for colors won't do much good, I don't think.

Thanks Alex. I'll try peroxide on it. I think you're right about the detergents I have. If the peroxide doesn't work I'll get some oxy booster.

When you pour peroxide on it..be prepared to wash right away.

Thing is peroxide can be damaging to textiles and should not be alliwed to remain on fabrics...after treating it should be put in a bath right away...by damaging I mean holes.

If that doesn't work, just mail the shirt to MamaP and she'll get it sorted no problem :)

Thanks, George :) Izeve, truly your best bet would be to find a powdered detergent with bleach. You'll find plenty of other uses beyond this one (namely, every load of whites going forward) and it will be gentler on your shirt than pure hydroxide.

My vote goes to trying either Tide with Bleach powder or Persil Pearls first...has the shirt been put in a dryer yet? Don't.....if you don't have a whites detergent, do you have any oxiclean?

No, the shirt has not been put in the drier. I caught the stain before then. I tried hydrogen peroxide this morning but it didn't seem to make a difference. The shirt has been rinsed and is awaiting the next treatment :-)

Have to get some oxyclean or detergent with bleach. I just finished a container of Persil Pearls (didn't like it - I had a bad batch, I assume, because it turned all blue) a few weeks ago and haven't bought anything new for whites yet.

Tide Boost pods are also *excellent* for whitening and stain removal (see Mama's post about three weeks ago). Could pick up a bag of those and keep same detergent.

Thank Alex, that's a good idea. Are the Tide Boost pods scented? I can't stand the scent of any liquid Tide.

There is a Free/Gentle variety with all the same enzymes and oxy bleach. The only scent that was entirely objectionable was the original scent, and that's now been discontinued. The other scents are fine. They really, really work.

This is my suggestion....Tide with Bleach powder. .this way you have a Whites detergent also....thing about the bleach pods is its already in the bleach detergent. Someone recently reminded me..why buy a detergent and the bleach pods when you can just buy a single detergent already loaded with what's in the booster pods...unless you use liquid detergent. Its not really going to be anymore beneficial adding a bleach pod to Tide with Bleach powder. ..matter of fact Tide with Bleach powder already has a PH of around 11..I think the bleach pods are also around 11...I know one dose of oxiclean is 11....this means a whole lot of sodium carbonate clogging up the fibers. on the other hand if you like liquid detergent which does not have a high PH nor does it have a whitener I recommend the Tide bleach pods.

I'll stop by some stores tonight and see what they have. I don't want to buy a big container of anything because I'm trying to use up the detergent I already have (moving overseas in 2 years and I have quite a stash for a single person :-)

Eve, you could stop in a laundramat and buy a single load box of oxiclean or Clorox2 ..perfect tiny amount LOL...I have a small collection of single serve detergents. Yes folks I stop in strange laundramats I see and buy a tiny box of detergent lol.

Decided to buy some Tide Brights and White Rescue pods. That's the only kind I could find at Target. Are these the booster pods you recommended?

Even though Consumer Reports magazine says OxiClean is the best, BIZ soak is my first go-to because, in my mind, the enzymes will eat up that fruit base. My latest concoction is a recipe I found on the intertubes: 2:1 peroxide:OriginalDawn dish liquid in a spray bottle, as a stain pretreat. I wait 5-10 minutes, then wash. If that does not work, then I use Oxi soak..

Washed the shirt with the boost pod (plus Ariel powder and hot wash). The stain didn't budge :-(

So what next? Chlorine bleach?

Here is what it looks like. The fabric is 60% cotton, 40% modal. Ignore the black fleck, it's just a piece of fuzz.

Very odd that this didn't come out. Try a paste of oxygen bleach and let it sit on there awhile. Better yet make a paste of oxygen bleach and teaspoon of either liquid detergent or use powder detergent, oxy and a few drops of water.

Agreed, very odd. It's a sunny day here today so I decided to try bleaching it in the sun with some diluted lemon juice. I'll keep you updated.

Remember the sun will add enough heat to oxidize it.

At this point I am willing to try anything. I may get some chlorine bleach while I'm shopping today.

Success! The stain is gone! It was actually really fun to watch the stain disappear right before my eyes. Amazing that such a low tech solution worked. There was no need for chlorine bleach.

Anyone interested in some Tide Boost pods? Efficacy not guaranteed ;-)

Izeve -- so glad you solved it! And of course, in the end, it was the simplest fix. Some of us are a little bit product jumpy and forget about the sun.

Hang on to those Tide Boost pods. Sorry it didn't work for this problem, but throw one in with the next load of our regular whites and any dinginess will slink away.
