Beautiful kitchen!! I am just starting or should I say 6 months in the designing phase of a remodel. I have changed my mind so many times & very in decisive. I was sure I would go with a contemporary walnut slab cabinet. Changed my mind to white cabinets with the Calcutta marble with a wood island. It is really funny that I ran across your kitchen cause it has the x glass cabinets that I just decided on a few days ago and wood floors. I am meeting with the cabinet maker in a few days to go over the changes. After seeing your kitchen I am now sure I am making the right selections. I just voted for your kitchen, of course, it is the most stunning kitchen!!! Good luck!

Thanks caliberry. I am currently working with a custom cabinet maker and I am going to show him the picture of your cabinet door. We are both leaning towards a shade such as you have for both the wood floors and cabinets so that we will have a nice contrast with the light cypress wood. we also want to make sure we do not pick a wood with a grain that will fight the cypress grain. One suggestion was to use cherry for the cabinets and floor, stained about the shade your doors are, because he said the grain wouldn't fight the cypress. Maple might be a consideration and I will run that by him. We can't afford real mahogany for both cabinets and floor, and our cabinetmaker feels they should both be the same wood. Mahogany might be too dark for my taste anyway. Left to my husband, he would have everything match. I told him this morning I do not want to feel like I'm living in a shipping crate LOL! We have a lot of windows and sliding glass french doors, all with nice views of our land, so with the right splashes of color I hope to achieve a warm comfortable home while avoiding a wood overload look. Thanks for the info. I'd say live with those beautiful cabinets for a while unless you truly do not like them. If it isn't in your heart and your stomach tenses up looking at them I would see if you could swap them out for the painted ones. It sounds like that is what you truly want, so don't settle if you don't have to. A kitchen is a very important space that nurtures us. You HAVE to like it. Sandy

Why don't you buy the best paint for cabinetry and trim. Specifically mad e to dry hard as a rock. i.e. Cabinet Coat. BM owns them now. Kilz is for drywall. That's why it was created, and frankly I don't think they do anything else as well. Again, i.e. get a primer that's made for wood or other hard finishes. STIX or BIN. Any adhesive primer. I go with all the advise I got on the paint forum and go oil based primer. It's harder, and very different than oil paint. You should definitely either sand to rough or use a serious dose of deglosser. If you don't all your work is for nothing. I like your color scheme, even all the different whites. Definitely do samples. I discovered why 3 different gray/sage/dusty/greens turned turquoise the minute natural light in my kitchen hit them: There's an environmental coating of some junk on the windows and it's got a BLUE tint. BTW. I admit to painting my cabinets 3 times, too, because I was testing my samples after work, at 11:00 at night. No sunlight. I just didn't get it fast enough.

Can anybody who has had cabinets painted + new doors and drawer faces tell me the price + approx square footage of kitchen? I had this done in 2012. I live in the SF Bay Area, so my costs are right up there. My kitchen is 10x10 and I didn't change the footprint at all. I got 25 new doors (including end panels), some large, some smaller, 7 drawer fronts, all paint grade maple. Decora shaker doors/end panels and slab drawer fronts. The cost, through my KD was just over $1K. I had everything painted professionally and that was a lot more, $4.3K. All the doors/drawer fronts were done in the painter's shop and the cabinet frames were done in place. The creamy white paint is the catalyzed stuff and has worn like iron. I had a general contractor do the door and hinge installation and other work in the kitchen, so I can't say how much of his fee was just cabinet-related. Initially I thought I'd have everything refaced. My cabs were golden oak. Home Depot sent out a guy to my house and he insisted I listen to a canned sales pitch. I wasn't born yesterday and didn't like his manner or approach. I asked, bottom line, how much. He threw out $10K, clearly uninterested in doing the work. I ended up paying $20K for my entire kitchen, including new quartz counter, backsplash, lighting, etc. Everything but the wood floor, including labor. If I were doing this sort of facelift again, I would do it the same way.
