A Little Privacy Please...With a Folding Screen, Curtain, or What?

Future retirement home. Downsized. Making me insane. Here is the current conundrum. Sitting on the living room sofa one has a direct sightline to the guest bathroom. The two small guest bedrooms and bath are off of a small hallway but we can see directly into the bathroom vanity from the living room. Major miss.
Anyway, should have put in a pocket door and I don't know if it is too late. Other options I'm considering are a tall folding screen that can be put into service when we have guests (could be clunky but there is space in the living room and I could use the height) or hanging on curtain rod over the doorway on the inside of the hall and using a semi-sheer curtain to pull when we have guests. Or just put up something temporary on a tension rod when needed. Clearly, I need some help.
The photos are imperfect and the home is very much a work-in-progress. The first one below shows the wall area to the left of the entry to the small hall where the guest bed and bathroom are. There is one bedroom to the left and one to the right with the bath off the back wall you see. No problem with this view.
However, move to the right where the sofa is and the following photo shows the view. As a guest, I would feel rather exposed going to my bedroom to the bath or using the guest bath at all.
How would you solve this? Thanks in advance!

Shower Guard/Bath Screen instead of shower curtain
Comments (18)I too really wanted to avoid a shower curtain in the tub-shower combination we were making for our kids' bathroom. I didn't want the glass all the way across, but I too was concerned about water leaking out, and easy access in and out of the tub. We compromised by installing a stationary panel connected to a hinged panel, which doesn't go all the way to the other end. See the photo below. It works great, with no water leaking onto the floor even with three kids, and visually it's the best, IMHO! We heard about shower screens from people who had loved them in their European travels. I went to several shower door retailers, and several of them were clueless. Some said it couldn't be done. My contractor wasn't too familiar with them either. I found a picture in a home magazine of just such a combination -- in fact, we used the same tub they did, a Kohler Tea for Two, and then copied exactly what they had done with their shower screen, which is a fixed panel next to a hinged panel. The tub is 66 inches long, and each of the panels is about 24 inches wide. My husband and I decided on the width of the panels by looking at where the vanity ended, and we thought long and hard about how wide the hinged panel had to be to both prevent water from leaking out while people showered, and yet make it easy to get in and out. This has worked out great. We bought the shower doors through the Expo Design Center. If you have a good one in your area, they will have an extensive display of frameless shower doors/shields. The representative they sent out to measure immediately knew what we wanted, and they installed quickly and precisely. (My husband put a little clear plastic suction thing near the bottom of the door, visible in the pictures) to protect the doors if the kids banged them against the vanity counter. Comments (12)I have similar situation where I would have liked to have a door into my master bath area. We considered a pocket door into the whole area and the barn door too. Problem with the barn door is you pretty much loose that wall for furniture unless you pull furniture forward of it's movement. I also just couldn't visualize it in the spot I need it. Maybe when all this construction is over. So in the mean time I plan on getting a huge full palm on wheels. I will pull it in place for a visual block when showering. Think living screen! With my recent visits to the hospital I found it very uncomfortable to be standing in the waiting room for the MRI dept and have the staff loudly discuss what I was there for. I was the only one there without obvious ortho issue so it was fairly uncomfortable for me to have all my business out there. When I had the nuclear stuff put in my chest it is like an ER where the areas are only divided by curtains. There was a man in next space that was hacking horribly, they were mentioning his needing a mask- yikes! The poor guy had to listen to my docs talking about the needles going into my boob and my yelping in pain while doc kept saying he was sorry. Then the poor guys doc kept pulling his curtain open too far and about 5 times the curtain between us pulled open a bit and my doc had to run over and tell the other doc to please pay attention and not pull open the curtain to expose me laying on the table topless. I really think they should have better privacy and gosh only knows why that man was hacking. I washed my hands several times while there. Privacy is a funny thing. Even when I have to call about things now it seems like I have to mention my illness when it really has nothing to do with why I am calling the person about. We would like our dd to remain with her teammates this upcoming season but there may be some parents on the team she should really be on that might object. (she is 12 but can play up with 14yrs because of her experience but some 12 yr parents still get mad about that). Luckily one of our moms is on the board and has assured me if there is any flack she will tell them there are private issues which the board has considered to allow her to be on the older team. But you know there will be some nosey person who just cannot leave it alone. Hopefully there will not. Again, I suggest a sign and if someone makes a move simply point to the sign and kindly remind them you need to protect other patient's privacy. If said politely I think they will get the hint. I'm annoyed cause yesterday I wrote a response to each of you and I came today to find it never posted - aargh! antiquesilver - no worries! ;) sombreuil and slateberry - A friend told me he was concerned that anything too much like a real wall (e.g. wooden shutters, cool as they might be) might be considered a real wall and therefor might have different code restrictions/issues and also with how windy it sometimes gets up there, it might be too noisy. These vinyl mesh things I was looking at are known for being able to tolerate pretty high winds and they can be secured very tightly (taught), or so it appears, and also when taken down/rolled down they don't take up much room, I think; I want something that will avoid as much excess when folded down (not up) as possible just cause the excess would collect dust, rain water, etc. as well as take up more space so I want as thin a material as possible. Slateberry - those sunbrella shades look nice! I still worry there are too many things that could go wrong, having more parts (I could be wrong)...and also I'm trying to avoid the "room" look and am aiming for more of an outdoor pergola look. I think the more fancy and "indoorsy" the screen looks - of whatever material - the more potentially awkward it could look when only one side is left up (closed) and the rest open, if that makes sense (?). If I'm standing on my balcony as far as one can walk toward my neighbor's house, I'd say there are about maybe 15-18' of space between that spot and their windows. Our house is just a little higher and it's a VERY clear view from our french door windows and our bedroom and the balcony, to their bed! (I keep the blinds closed so much of the time because of this, and our room's really dark). Add to this the fact that they're honestly very unfriendly people and I feel psychologically as if I'm five feet from them. Moccasinlanding - My plan - if we actually do something like this - is to keep the screen up at all times that faces South (toward their bedroom) and to keep the other two sides down/open the rest of the time for the most part. If you step outside our french doors and onto the balcony, to our right is the West and to our left is the East. So it's a great, all-day sunny spot. Having no real typical pergola "ceiling" (no beams running across the top but just two horizontal beams on each side, connecting the tops of the pillars to the house), I imagine it wouldn't get much hotter that way and wouldn't require any sort of ventilation because - again - only one side (the South side, at that) would be screened. The screen is also a natural sun screen - not just privacy provider. I was thinking I'd like the screen (uses a hand crank) to to from the bottom, up. That way if it was a time of day when I wanted more sun from above and the screen was in the way, I could at least have it go up part way to have some privacy (more than without the screen anyway). Did any of you see the link to those screens? If I had an old-fashioned, sort of craftsman structure (consistent w/ our front porch's look), painted white, w/ corner square pillars and had those screens from that website or one like it, would/could that look like it goes w/ the rest of the house well enough do you think? Would it look better if all the screens were down most of the time and I'd only have the screen up when I wanted to use the balcony or let in more light into our room on occasion? How could I make it look better? Maybe if I kept the southern side's screen up, kept the two other sides down and then put some tall plants in there to call to mind more of a balcony garden which would take the focus off the one screen being up so much of the time? This is a tiny bit of the view from the sofa. There is a TV and console on the long wall opposite the sofa.
