HAVES: 2016 SPRING MAG SWAP (Saturday, May 7) - Plants You Have List
Comments (40)Likewise!! It was so wonderful actually meeting everyone and thank you SO very much for your generosity! Gardengramma, thank you especially for hosting, and providing such a gloriously beautiful place for us to meet. (You did am amazing job dialing up the weather as well). Since I got there without my leucojeum or redhot poker I'd be open to making one-off arrangements. I had to get the leucojeum right back into the ground but I can dig some more. Some people also mentioned a possible fall meeting? Which of course would be better for leucojeum, peonies, other fall-dormant plants... One other note - I thought I'd be able to tell people this as we traded but it was a little too chaotic -- in our area we have a serious problem with Japanese stilt grass, very invasive in the woods near us. I don't know if it's widespread but I don't want to be responsible for spreading it. I'm pretty sure I did not include any ride-alongs in my trades, BUT, stilt-grass makes a lot of seed. It's incredibly easy to pull up and easy to kill, but if it goes to seed, it makes an awful lot. Don't let anything grassy come up in your transplants......See MoreFt Worth Spring Swap March 26 2016 Trinity Park Pavilion 5
Comments (27)Gretchen, this is the FW Swap thread, LOL! I am glad you all found a church; I think you'll love it! Also, I told someone about the Denton swap, just can't remember her name right now; she lives closer to you "northerners"! Well, my "photogenic" personality remains consistent: the photographer always catches me with my eyes closed & my mouth open! Isn't that an adorable picture of Sheridan (Sherry) & Jordan!!! Like Nan, I have a lot of work to do! I got everything out of the car & drenched the plants that need/can tolerate it (ie, not the sanservia or the cactus...is it pencil or devil's backbone?), got all those blue bottles into the garage to keep them dry, planted the apple mint, daffs, & put the red amaryllis in a pot. Whew! It was a great get together, & thanks to Pam we had a secure place to meet; the park was jam-cram packed on this Easter week-end! Thanks to all of you for making it a success, & I'm looking forward to doing it again in the autumn!...See More2016 SpringFling/Swap Sign-up
Comments (207)Amy, It was great but we missed you and wished you had been there with us. Jen, I would hope so! If you didn't take home enough plants to keep your busy, then cleary that means you must take home a lot more next year. Mia, They both do vine and do best on a trellis. However, you could let them sprawl if you want. With the Armenian cukes, I grow them both ways....letting each plant climb or spray as it prefers, and get a great harvest either way. With the summer squash plants that are C. moschata, they vine wildly and will do so whether on the ground or climbing something. I find them easier to control on a trellis. In lieu of a trellis, how about an extra large bamboo teepee for each plant? I can just picture a certain little Sprout playing inside each teepee this summer. Dawn...See MoreSpring Plant Swap 2016
Comments (8)Please copy this and print it to share with gardening friends or paste it on your Facebook page -- and bring a dish, a chair, and some plants and come to Gadsden Saturday. *************** To the gardeners of Alabama: If you’ve never been to a plant swap, you’re in for a real treat. The Etowah County Master Gardeners invite you to exchange plants and other garden items, along with ideas, information, and fun conversation with people who share your love of gardening. You’ll find favorite pass-along-plants that you won’t see in local nurseries - things that have flourished in the heat and humidity and clay soils of Alabama gardens just like yours. Bring a dish to share for a covered dish lunch and visit after the swap. Bring a friend, some plants, and a chair and join us: Date: Saturday, May 14 Time: 10:00 a.m. – Gates open by 9:30 a.m. Place: ECMGA Greenhouses, 3200 West Meighan Boulevard (behind the Etowah County Bd of Education), Gadsden, AL The best part: it’s free and no money changes hands [unless you want to buy marked-down plants left from the recent MG plant sale]. Here’s how it works: Load your car up with plants or other garden-related items to swap: plants (potted and clearly labeled!) seeds, bulbs home grown fruits or vegetables cuttings suitable for rooting pots garden ornaments, decorative rocks gardening books, magazines potting soil, soil amendments When you get to the Master Gardeners’ property, pull through the gate, find a place to park inside the fence, and get a name tag from the table near the building. Arrange the things you have brought on the ground by your vehicle. It’s a good idea to write your name on a sheet of paper and tape it where everyone can see who to look for if they spot something you have that they want to swap for. That’s when the fun begins. Check out things other people have brought. If you find something you like, ask the person who brought it what they’d like that you brought and arrange to swap. Feel free to ask for information about a plant: How big will it get? Sun or shade? What color are the flowers? Gardeners love to tell you all about their plants. As you gather your new goodies, be sure to put them in your vehicle or another place where people will know they are not available to swap. Then, when the swapping is done, we’ll enjoy a good old-fashioned covered dish lunch! At least one MG is bringing a tray of subs and I’ll bring a big salad. See you Saturday!...See MoreZachS. z5 Platteville, Colorado
