What kind of trees are these? My pup doesn’t feel well-maybe due trees

Im in CO zo e 6. they have tiny white flowers for about 2-3 weeks in April every year, petals get everywhere. my puppy has been itchy and her stomach is unsettledd. I took her to the vet and they cant identify the cause but im starting to wonder if the petals are effecting her. they are evvvverywhere when the tree is in bloom. any help is appreciated! thanks!!

Generally speaking, without closeup picture of the leaves, buds, bark and flowers, we can still most likely presume this is some kind of plum or cherry trees. These belong to the Rosaceae family of which there are 4,828 species in 91 genera, including apples.

So, if those trees are the source of the problem, you'll have quite a time protecting him/her from this type of allergen because these are ubiquitous.

(There is a 'Name that Plant Forum' on these boards).

Have you seen the pup eating or chewing on plant materiel or anything else that might upset his stomach? Many kinds of plants can have a mildly to modest toxicity if taken internally and if they eat grass, they can vomit from that.

It might be best to keep the pup out of the yard during pollination time, but sorry, I am not a veterinarian and have no idea if pollens from these trees can cause any of the symptoms you describe.

Unfortunately since you only have a suspicion... you are going to have to watch your dog. As in every second they are out in the yard. Watch what they are sniffing into, chewing, digging. And watch for reactions. I would like to say it would be easier if pets can talk to us, but often enough humans have to go through a watch every second of it to figure out our allergies too.

OK, we're now on the third year of the honeycrisp and there are no apples. It got only a few blooms, but no fruit developed. Meanwhile, the snow apple, which was purchased as a polinator, has a number of apples. I haven't fertilized any of my fruit trees (a peach and two cherries in addition to the apples). Maybe this is the problem with the honeycrisp. The cherries aren't producing, either, but I didn't expect them to this soon. The sweet one was decimated by japanese beetles last year and the sour is a standard not a dwarf or semi-dwarf so I expect it's got more years of growing before it produces fruit. Please correct me if I'm wrong on that and should be doing something to encourage fruiting (besides spraying, which we are doing for the first time this year). This is an extremely helpful forum. Tony: An overall photo of the tree would be helpful, but from what I can see of those leaves, they do not look like the leaves on my peach trees. You still have not told us your location, a fact that can be very useful for people trying to help you. There are several rootstocks commonly used for grafted peach trees, including Halford, Lovell, and Guardian. None of them will grow good peaches. Occasionally, you might find a peach tree grafted to seedling, which might grow acceptable peaches. The place to find out which rootstock you have is the place you bought the tree. For Frank: Don't let that Reliance get any larger than 10 feet tall. Prune that baby down, concentrating on removal of growth in the tree's center, and spread the branches. You can do it now, right now, especially if it has a few nice peaches that are shaded by the growth. If Contender survives in North Dakota, it will find SE Wisconsin to be almost tropical. I have to say these are the first peaches I have seen, with the tree in its 3rd leaf, and I can't give you an opinion on their flavor. But they sure look good, and at the rate they are growing will be the largest peaches I have ever grown. Looks like an average of about 3/4 lb. each. I expect to have some go to a full pound each. Big peaches are heavy. For Troman: Don't let your peach trees put on too much upward growth. It will make it more difficult to thin, spray and pick them when they set fruit, which might be next season. It's not rocket science. Just take your pruners and go to work. I prune my trees at any time of the year they need it, and always prune off a lot of new growth on top just after thinning (early June) to allow maximum sun penetration on the fruit. Peach trees grow more fruiting wood than they need, which leads to the need for much more thinning work the following season. And spread those branches, by hook or by crook. From your photo, it looks like an ash tree, but it's not close enough to tell. Other possibility is a hickory maybe? Same with the disease issue. Too hard to tell from the photo. But, if it is an ash tree, it's probably Ash Anthracnose. It's warm and very wet in Chicago this year, right? Perfect conditions for this: "Ash anthracnose is probably the most common disease of green ash. It is caused by a fungus and occurs during cool, rainy weather. It can be confused with ash plant bug and herbicide damage. Individual trees vary in their susceptibility to anthracnose to the extent that some trees may be infected every year and others only rarely or never at all. Initial symptoms on green ash include very small (grain of sand-sized) purple or brown spots, sometimes with a cream-colored center, on young leaves. These spots may enlarge and coalesce forming brown blotches. Leaves often become distorted and drop and young shoots may be killed. Defoliation and leaf browning cause homeowners a great deal of concern, but treatment is generally not warranted. Affected trees usually put out a second flush of leaves and make up for lost time later in the growing season. However, trees that have been defoliated three to five years in a row might benefit from chlorothalonil, mancozeb or thiophanate treatment at budbreak to prevent infection. The fungus can overwinter on the ground in infected leaves and twigs, so raking and disposing infected material may help reduce infection the following spring." Mike, the range for sugar (sucrose) used as a foliar spray on citrus trees is from 0.5 - 2 percent. In a quart of water that would be 4.7 grams (0.5%), and 18.8 grams (2 percent) Add sugar, then fill with water to make one quart and dissolve thoroughly.. Mike do you have a gram scale? To give you an idea 28 grams is one US ounce. If you don't have gam capability, we have electronic gram scales. I could measure the above amounts using a teaspoon and let you know the approximate level using a teaspoon. Also, adding a LITTLE surfactant will increase the efficiency of the solution..

My dog eats bunny berries but apparently can't eat a grape. Go figure.

I am as worried about physical damage from a dead rabbit's bones or mulch or if she tries to eat a whole hedgeapple than I am about a reaction.

Hi all- so sorry for the delay in response!

thanks so much for the advice everyone!!!! I did end up taking her to the vet and cutting off all low branches that she tries to get off the tree or just chews. Funny until someone doesn’t feel well 😬 But she’s been doing much much better since. And I’ve been sitting outside whenever they are out there to make sure she’s not sneaking them. Ohhhh puppies. Beesneeds, there were a few sticks that I hadn’t seen yet that she got into. She’s ok now :) Also the petals are almost gone so that’s nice!!

Eek yeah I heard grapes are realllly bad. A long time ago my old dog ate Raisin Bran when a dog sitter was watching her and luckily she knew to rush her to the vet. So many things to pay attention to but they’re worth it! 💜💜💜
