The events on April’s design calendar are full of stylish furniture, whether you prefer innovative international designs or handmade heirlooms. If you’re looking for some residential eye candy, there’s a lot to interest you, with a modern-home tour in the desert and more to catch your fancy. Finally, if you’re ready to go native, we have just the tour for you, featuring more than 40 native-plant gardens.
Modern Phoenix Week

Where: Phoenix
When: April 1 to 10
Cost: Varies
Sun, cactuses and modern design come together in Phoenix for the first 10 days of April. While not as famous as Palm Springs for its midcentury designs, the Phoenix-Scottsdale region has a recognized collection of homes that embrace desert modernism. Casa Lantana, above, designed by Buckingham Interiors + Design, is among the many homes available to tour.

Theodore Payne Native Plant Garden Tour
What: Garden tour
Where: Los Angeles
When: April 2 and 3
Cost: $25 to $30
This two-day self guided tour of 41 gardens throughout Los Angeles County features gardens that consist of at least 50 percent native plants. At each location you’ll meet garden owners and designers happy to express their love of and insights on native planting.

The Philadelphia Furniture Show
What: Artisanal-furniture show
Where: Philadelphia
When: April 8 to 10
Cost: $12 for a weekend pass
Those who prefer an artisanal approach to furniture design can check out The Philadelphia Furniture Show, the longest-running exhibition of handmade heirloom furniture and furnishings in the United States. Look for Michaela Crie Stone’s Gigi chair, seen above, made from maple and steel.

Commonly referred to as the Milan Furniture Fair, this six-day event is celebrating its 55th anniversary with a global showcase of design and furnishings. The fair is recognized for introducing innovative furniture prototypes and setting new trends destined to be seen on showroom floors throughout the world. Lucky visitors truly experience the future of design.
