Not what do you wear, instead: How do you wear jewelry?
Comments (17)As I matter of fact I do wear jewelry differently at my 2 homes! I can't stand cold metal touching me so I don't wear necklaces in the winter (from Nov to about March) at my regular home. And I wear one particular pair of earring almost all winter because they dangle but not long enough to touch my skin. Some of the longer ones end up touching my neck from my scarves & bulky coat so I avoid those. It's crazy but cold metal just sends a chill right through me and makes me feel colder. Since it's warmer in HHI, I do wear necklaces & earrings and even bracelets. I usually bring a few down with me so that I can have some variety. One necklace at a time, if it's bold than the earrings are smaller. One bracelet at a time and it depends on my sleeve length. In both places, I occasionally wear rings when I remember them. Your comments about gold & blue reminds me that I have an 18k gold ring with a lapis lazuli stone. I should dig that out and start wearing it again....See Moreslightly OT: how do you store your jewelry?
Comments (18)Everyone, thanks for these useful ideas and insights. You guys are really creative. Pretty much every bit of my jewelry is costume; I only have one nice ring and it's already in the safety deposit box across town. So no theft worries. I'd be sad to lose my costume stuff, but none of it is irreplaceable. Les, your suggestions are just so spot-on re my style: would you please come out to visit and just redo my entire house while you're here? (Bring me some Frango Mints, too?) I hadn't even known those plain, mirrored jewelry cabinets existed. What a great idea. Anyone seen one with Art Nouveau or Lloyd Wright -style detailing? (: (well, a girl can dream...) Igloo, if I see any antique silverware boxes out here in the sticks, I'll emulate you. Love that idea too. You guys are great!...See MoreHow do you store your extra pillows at night?
Comments (30)[Bellaflora, that's my bed under the window. It's a walnut Empire-style daybed with scrolled ends from about 1830, and it's only 24 inches wide, but I've been sleeping on it since 1977. I was just out of college & just starting my first job when I spotted it at an antique show, and the $240 it cost me seemed like a fortune. I had to eat macaroni-&-cheese for weeks to repair the damage to my bank account, but, hey, it was worth it. The brand-new furniture that my pals were buying during the same period all went to Goodwill--or a landfill--a long time ago, but I figure my bed has at least another 50 years left to go. Anyway, the writer who came to my apartment to interview me for the O at Home article had the same question you did--"Where's your bed?" When I told her I was sitting on it, she paused, glanced at her hands, and then said, "Well, it's a really nice piece. But...what do you do... how do...what if you sometimes want to...um...have...a guest?" I just laughed & told her "I don't have those kind of guests."]...See MoreHow/where do you store your clothing?
Comments (8)It's just the two of us, and although we have a (smallish) walk-in master closet, I have some things hanging in another closet. Many things hang other than my yard/exercise type clothing, lingerie and pjs/gowns, undies, etc. We have drawers in the master closet and also a dresser in the bedroom for folded items. Sweaters are not hung either, they are in drawers. I like things ironed and I don't mind ironing. I usually do as needed. I like shirt sleeves and my husband's cotton pants "creased". We do have a good bit of clothing that doesn't need ironing though. "Dress-up" clothing such as suits, dresses, etc. are most often dry cleaned and I keep them covered, hanging in another bedroom closet. Thankfully those aren't used/needed much! haha!...See Moresealavender
