Hearing aids!!
Comments (4)I've had my hearing aids for almost a year now. And yes, they came with a package of batteries. (I don't remember if there was a name on them or not.) The Audiologist said batteries would last "5 or 6 days". And they did, exactly. When they ran out, I bought Eveready (at Walmart), They last 10 days. I tried Duracell once, exact same 10 days. (Yes, I keep track of things like that). I'm sure they would last longer, But I wear mine all day every day. I have no ideas about any other brands, But I will stick with Eveready, They are a bit cheaper than the Duracell. Or whichever of the two might have a good sale on. Rusty Correction: I checked on my batter supply, The brand I use is Ray-O-Vac, not Eveready. I don't believe I've tried the Eveready. I have always thought of the Ray-O-Vac as being a "lesser" brand, So was surprised when Duracell proved to be not one bit better. Comments (15)ALL the time. And we see things that are unexplained too. The first thing that happened in this house was when I walked across the yard, across the cool decking to the old antique wagon to feed the birds. When I came back, the hose was on. It wasn't when I went by the first time. It had one of those sprayers on it that looked like the firehose type. You had to turn it to make the water come on. My son called me at work one day in early September. Wanted to know if I turned the heat on. This my not sound odd, but we NEVER use our heat...ever. He came home and it was over 100 degrees in our house and the heater was and had been on for quite awhile. Our bedroom has a door to the back yard. When it is nice out, we sleep with that door open. One night, we got into bed and I realized we hadn't opened it. DH said he would get it. He got out of bed and hadn't even taken a step, when the door flew wide open. We have a ceiling fan in our bedroom. DH was laying on the bed, watching it. It stopped by itself. He called out to me, but I was in the living room and didn't hear him. Then it started again. He came to see where I was, as he thought I was playing a trick on him. Our walk in closet light goes off and on, on and off by itself. As does the light in the hallway bathroom. We see shadows flitting down the hallway. DS has had what feels like a hand brush the back of his head in his bedroom, which is actually the den. He has heard a female voice say things and seen a figure walk out of his room. Our pit bull will sit in front of the sofa, like she is looking at someone sitting there. All the sudden she will stand up, keep looking at the sofa and just wag the heck out of her tail. No one is on the sofa. I am not sure if this "ghost" is the original owner who I have heard had alzheimer's and would walk out of the house and down the street unattended or if it is my late FIL. I used to be convinced it was my FIL, but I am not so sure anymore. But then I think maybe again it is. When we lived in our last house, he lived with us and passed away while we lived there. I used to hear him walking in the house, with his walker scraping the baseboards. I saw him twice in the garage. I am not afraid of the goings on in our house. However, my son? He is totally freaked out about it....See MoreHow and where do you buy your appliances?
Comments (10)Buying a whole kitchen of appliances is different from buying a single unit. For my whole kitchen, I did a LOT of online research, but I'm lucky enough to live close enough to some very good independent retailers that I was able to pick the independent appliance dealer that best suited me. When there's less competition, they may not be as good, but usually some negotiating can help. I just went back to the same people for an inexpensive appliance for relatives and was equally pleased. I would never let a contractor, designer or architect choose my appliances! That's fine for people whose idea of cooking is popping a frozen pizza into a frozen pizza cooker (because they don't know how to use the oven, even though the manual is in there). But you can be sure I brought my contractor to the store, showed him what I was getting, and got his license number, and associated discount, attached to my order! Ranges can be different, however, if you're looking for a high power home gas range. High end French and Italian ranges come from specialty sellers. Some appliance stores have BlueStar. Fewer seem to have American Range, FiveStar and Capital. Quite a few of our people order from Trevor at Eurostoves (who is a member of this forum), no matter where they live (in the U.S.), in order to get his great customer service. OTOH, for an ordinary kitchen range, whether KitchenAid or Wolf or anything between, a local store with a good service department is a great way to go. The problem with most big box stores is that they're not in the appliance business and can't really help much when there are issues, so you're dealing with whoever does their service, rather than the store itself. I think a good experience and good backup of a local dealer are worth the $100 you might save pushing the price shopping....See MoreWhere do you buy your books?
Comments (54)I only came upon one library book that some inconsiderate reader had annotated in ink. It was so distracting that it spoiled my attempt to read and enjoy the book. In one of my rarest of moments, I brought it to the attention of the library staff and the book was promptly removed from their catalog. I fussed...to myself...for days, I was so annoyed. I simply couldn't accept the lack of respect for public property. I don't mind a pencil doodle here or there in a child's book if it has some character. I was scolded severely as a child for doing same but I remember how interested I was in the book and the character that I simply had to personalize the book. When I see minimal pencil contributions of that nature...it brings back a lot of memories. My whole world began in books and I can understand the exuberance of a child doing exactly what I did. But minimally...and never to a book that doesn't belong to the parties involved....See Moremorz8 - Washington Coast
