Brand new worm Bin, worms running for the hills

Hi everyone, I just set up a brand new worm bin (2 days ago) with 1 lb of euros ( Eisenia hortensis). The bin is a 13 gallon Rubbermaid 2/3rds filled with shredded newspaper, grocery bags, and a touch of peat/coconut husk for texture. If I cover the bin for anything longer than 15 minutes 25 to 50 worms will race to the lid and start to escape. The only thing that keeps them down is leaving the lid off with a light over head. Is this normal for a new bin? Am I doing something wrong? The bin is in my basement and is around 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Also its not too wet or dry. I haven't really started to feed them yet as I assumed they would get started on the bedding itself. I have thrown in a tiny bit of diced banana peel and 1 diced baby carrot.

Thanks
