Help me arrange/design my laundry room
Comments (8)We're in the process of doing our laundry room. My hope is to make it as efficient as possible so that I can be in and out as quickly as possible. I'll tell you about our plans...maybe it will give you some ideas for your space. We're going to use a combination of Ikea kitchen cabinets and the Ikea Stolmen storage unit. I like this unit because it's modular and can be changed around with drawers, clothes bars, and shelves. Hooks can be mounted on the vertical supports. It's also very open--so that it keeps the room feeling large. Could you possibly use something like this across the front of your utility wall leaving space behind it and at the ends to leave easy access to the furnace, etc.? The unit attaches to the floor and the ceiling which allows it to be placed away from a wall. This would give you lots of storage--including hanging storage. So, anyway, this is my plan: 1. West wall--front loader washer/dryer. Ikea base cabinets with deep drawers for storing sorted loads of dirty laundry. Also, a laundry sink. Horizontal wall cabinets (with lift up doors.) 2. North Wall--large window on this wall (2nd floor laundry room.) Ikea base cabinets with doors. Space will be used to store baskets of clean laundry, or empty baskets. Family members will theoretically come retreive their baskets of clean clothes. There will be a small-drawer-mounted ironing board in this run of cabinets. Long stretch of counter will be used for folding. 3. East wall. Stolmen unit and 2 tall 15" wide pantry cabinets. One with pull outs for storage. The other to be used for broom/vacuum/ironing board storage. The Stolmen unit will have clothes-hanging bars, shelves, hooks and drawers. One drawer will be used for wrapping paper so that the folding counter can be used for wrapping. Clothes drying racks will be stored, folded up, under a window on this wall. We do a lot of air drying. I hope to have a sewing machine permanently set up in the corner for quick repairs. 4. South wall--has wall mounted drying racks that tilt out. We have all the components. DH just needs the time to put them together. Here is a link that might be useful: Stolmen system...See MoreHelp me pick (fix) a color for my laundry room?
Comments (8)Thanks for the confirmation that it's just too much. ;) And isn't my kitten adorable? He was a big helper, too - sat on the same step I was on while I was painting, until I locked him out so I could finish that area. I called the appliance delivery folks and was told they would be at my house at around 11:30 am. So, I ran over the HD and grabbed some primer and new paint...and JUST as they were mixing in the color, I got the call (at 10:35) that they'd be at my house in 15 minutes. Rushed home, and beat them by about three minutes (small town = no traffic). That's when we discovered that our slab for the W&D is a bit too short - the feet for both appliances rest right at the edge, and these are about 4 inches longer than our former pair. So, the color is the least of my concerns - now I have to make sure the appliances are balanced, and hope they don't wander... When the room is finished, I'll post pictures. Could be a few days. Oh - the color I chose - I really liked Key Lime on Behr's website (as someone above suggested), but I didn't like the paint chip at all. I opted for Carolina Parakeet, which is lighter than the current color, but still not a 'light' color. I think I can pull it off w/ white blinds, perhaps a white (or blue?) valance, and some black-framed pictures on the wall. And if not, I'm painting the room white again and getting colorful curtains. ;)...See MoreWould the curves make you dizzy? Cool house
Comments (19)No they would not. They are beautiful. I would never feel at home in something so austere, however. It looks empty, like it is all staged to show for selling. It reads cold, too many hard surfaces. The views would be fantastic, I just don't think they would be all I need in the way of decoration....See MoreHELP me with my laundry room design!
Comments (5)Think about how you'd like to use your laundry room. Looking at your room, this would be my wish list: handy storage for laundry supplies. Your existing cupboards aren't handy. If they were, bottles wouldn't be on top of the laundry machines. a mop/broom rack (if you're feeling rich, you could add a mop sink as well-- it's on the floor which makes it convenient for mops and pails... and washing dogs) a clean, clear and convenient folding area. This could be on top of the laundry machines, if you installed a piece of countertop over them. Or it could be a table or re-used kitchen cabinet lowers (Craigslist is your friend). What it isn't is a washer and dryer with space between and behind them for clothes to fall into. a floor drain-- makes life a lot easier in the event of flooding. a counter beside the laundry tubs a rod for hanging wet things to drip dry over the laundry tubs a shelf above the rod for things you want close to hand if your laundry bins live down here, a designated space for them Note that none of the above mentions décor. The pretties come last. If you post a floor plan with dimensions we can help you with a functional layout. Then we can talk paint, lights, tile, etc....See More- 8 years ago
