What did you 'prettify' on the cheap?
Comments (143)Thanks Walkin'! I figure since I can't paint or do woodworking (though I can finish wood) or anything else, I can frost cakes. Best of all, if it doesn't turn out right, nobody really cares as long as it *tastes* good LOL! Happy Birthday to DS! Sweeby, i can't believe that was you first mosaic project! Couldn't start with something small and flat like a table, LOL? I would *never* attempt something like that - but it looks beautiful. Now you have to do another one to match, right?? I can't say what my favorite "project" in this thread is - everything is so creative and I can't see any flaws in execution either. A very talented bunch of people here! And such beautiful homes! Bonniee - I have to get some help from you when I finally put up my 95" long panels in my LR and DR - don't know if I can fold (unlined) thicker drapes over like you did? And the toile valance from JCP is on its way, will have to see how that is supposed to hang, and then how to modify it if I want to hang it on knobs or hooks to get your (bathroom pic) look. Been putting more poly on kitchen window today, skimmed another coat of compound in the FR corner I'm trying to build out, and poly'd the oak "sidesplashes" for my island (different type, water-based brush-on rather than oil-based wipeon used on window). Soon will be time to sand those and put on another coat, then finish filling the office window frame with spray foam insulation, then I'm done for today! Tomorrow will be the oak shoe I'm putting to hide gap b/t counter and wall - then my kitchen will pretty much be *done* (except for installing these, and finishing and installing the crown that my cousin started on Sunday, oh, and pulling up and resetting the loose tile, and putting in the little bit of baseboard and the toekick, and oh, cutting, finishing, and installing casings around the 5 doors/doorways - oh well, maybe it'll be a while before it's done. But the cabinets, countertops, and window will look good!). I have to get mulch down and cut off the dead daffodils b4 I take a pic of the stone wall....See MoreCurious About Your Projects and Updates.......
Comments (45)Eleri Rose came into the world on 9/4 at 11:19AM at 8lbs 4oz. She is the 1st girl born into DH's side of the family for at least 2 generations so she will be spoiled. Her big brothers had planned to hide and live underneath their beds if they got a sister but they are very thrilled w/ her now. I got home Sun. & my house is remarkably in decent running order w/ the help of DH. He set me up w/ a lap top but it's not working right now. That just gives me more time to consider how to rearrange our LR! Projects never stop! That said, to make more room in the LR DH brought an old low steamer trunk down out of the attic to use as a coffee table in place of our giant round space consuming banana leaf one. I thought that it would be cool to mount industrial style wheels underneath to raise it a bit. Anyone know where I might try looking for some? Thanks so much for the pic. arrangement compliments! Can't wait to add this little one in!...See MoreSo Cal Renovation - Flip or Flop
Comments (9)I've seen a "knock it off"'episode a couple of times where not only do they seem to be walking on a tile floor an hour after it's been laid, but the tile backsplash is clearly not grouted and missing tile around the window sill. I like their knockoffs, and the tension is fun for the viewer, but things need to set and cure for goodness sake; how many fingerprints are embedded in the painted cabinet doors, and how much peels off because a drawer was closed while still tacky? I watch those shows for the ideas and personalities, not for the reality, because it's not reality! Now This Old House, THAT's reality. Months on a project and they talk about codes, permitting, neighbors, etc. not like they are in impediment but as just another thing to tend to. Just like the rest of us....See MoreFound this armoire on CL
Comments (31)kswl2 may have a good idea there! I looked for painted French antique armoires, and when you see these prices, in British pounds (so multiply by 1.5 for US dollars), you may have a renewed interest in getting it and doing a soft blue glaze. Scroll down, and you'll see several that are close to the one on your CL. Not to enable you, but if you have room for it, think of what say $200 (if you can get it for that) would get you in furniture along that line...a particle board something? I'd have picked it up already, as no one is going to have one like that, especially if you do a unique paint treatment. http://www.frenchfinds.co.uk/ARMOIRES.htm Check out this one from the site -...See More1929Spanish-GW
