Need your opinion on my new accessories
Comments (19)The things that you have chosen are all tallish and narrow and are fireplace-specific. By that I mean they don't carry through the room. The fireplace is rock which is also weighty but your accessories, including the ones on the mantle are holding their own. You have orange in your windowsill vase and I think in your table lamp as well and both your table lamps have green in them. I would get a tall weighty vase with those colours in them, perhaps something in a pottery. You could also add something with a sparkle to give more texture to the room. I don;t know if this would work, but could the speaker be put into a basket that is turned on it's side so that the opening is facing out. It would help to disguise it and again add some texture to the area. Then put a pic or a framed mirror above the fireplace that is hung as high as the window wall. It looks like you have some serious ceiling height going on in that room but all of your accessories seem to be on the shorter smaller side but without a full room pic it's hard to tell if they are getting lost in the room....See MoreHelp- NEW Pics- Only 4 wood species considered- Need your opinion
Comments (13)Patricia, maybe this is what is bothering me about the tiles. They are so close in color to the file cabinets but are not quite a match with different undertones so I most likely need to go with the lighter tiles or much darker than having them so close in color? They really look nice in my front foyer area due to the light coming in that makes the variations in the tile go nicely in that spot but in the darker foyer, it looks like I did not get the match quite right. :) About the woods, I tried going much lighter but my putty file cabinets seemed in my mind to clash. I tried going much darker but I do not want a dark office. The Amendoim has planks that are lighter than my desk but has a red tint that picks up the desk color. I know the other colors are close but I could not figure out what else I liked and I guess I love rich woods with some red in them. This decorating is overwhelming me and maybe that is why I choose safe beige colors. But you are right about the framing not being able to match it just right. I guess that is what I will have to do with a picture above the couch that I still do not have after 10.5 years. Maybe instead of matching one of the woods, I will just go with chrome or silver since I have crystal lamps with chrome bases and to match the wood on the legs of the glass tables will be very difficult. Thanks again for replying....See MoreNew Elevations from Draftsman. Your Opinion Please???
Comments (23)I feel like I'm reading Highlights magazine with my kids again, trying to pick out items that're different between two pictures. I don't think the small difference between these ratios is going to make a hill of beans difference in the long run. Once I looked carefully I decided I wanted the slightly lower pitch and that's what I went with. What I think will make a difference in the curb appeal is how you "dress" the house in terms of landscaping: Agree 100%. I'm already thinking ahead to what it will be. - I am bothered by the downstairs "block" next to the garage that has three high windows. It seems to jump out at me as an "empty space". I'd definitely plant something tall and flowery -- perhaps crepe myrtle? They grow well in Florida, don't they? And they flower profusely for a long period of time. This would "fill that space". that is the kitchen and it's not 100% what those windows will be yet. A lot will depend on the final kitchen plans. However, assuming I keep the high windows, I'll be doing some interesting plantings in front. I might even consider adding some sort of trellis and have something climbing as well as some taller growing things. (I'm not a crepe myrtle fan but there are lots of other things I could go with) - With your driveway all the way on the left and your entrance all the way on the right, your guests will traverse the length of your house to reach the door. You definitely need a wide, perhaps not quite straight path to the door, and it needs to be surrounded by lovely plantings as well as a birdbath and perhaps a bench. this is a city lot line. And the distance will be approximately 40'. So I will have probably a grand total of 10' frontage. So not much room for anything more than a path. What I don't know yet is whether they will be adding a sidewalk. Right now, I don't think so, but who knows? However there will be lots of low growing plants because I want absolutely no grass in front. the driveway will be pavers of some sort. But you make an excellent point in that it's not just a house, not just a floor plan and not just some bushes planted along the front, but that it all has to be designed and thought of as an integrated whole. :)...See MoreMy new kitchen layout - Please give me your opinion!
Comments (22)I have a few thoughts I'm wondering if you and your team have discussed... Did you consider adding a wall between the present formal living room and the present dining room? It seems particularly odd to me to have this whole first floor totally open with two seating areas open to each other. If you added that wall perhaps you could turn the front room into a music and sitting room. The locations of the windows and doors across the back wall don't seem to related to the different spaces. I was thinking you could put a swing door between the dining room and the living room and another between the kitchen and the dining with windows centered on each of the three spaces aross the back; living room, dining room, kitchen windows. Did you discuss putting your clean up sink on the exterior wall and a prep sink in the island? I thought maybe instead of reach in pantries you could frame in a walk in pantry behind the fridge. The areas in teal are a reach in pantry on the left and a walk in on the right. Just food for thought......See Moreolychick
