Would a Saarinen table work here?
I have always loved the Saarinen table with the carrera marble top. I am tempted to buy one for the hallway to my planned master suite addition (which hasn't started yet-architect is working on the construction plans), especially since they are on sale right now.
I thought it might work in the hallway (see pic below) which is 8 ft wide x 16'8", bordered by floor to ceiling glass. I think it would be nice to sit there with a cup of coffee in the am overlooking the pool and city view.
Any thoughts on if it would work in this spot and if it would fit in an 8 foot wide space? There are sizes of 35", 42" and 47". Or would it be too tight? Also not sure what chairs would work. Thanks for any advice!

Comments (58)You certainly have a beautiful home. I've read both your posts because I, too, have a brick wall which dominates the room. With hardwood floors the acoustics are terrible. I put a large medium blue area rug in the room (thick nubs of felted wool shag) which does a good job of toning down the brick. I'm considering a large piece of oversized artwork by Judy Paul for the center of the wall, with smaller pieces on the sides. BTW, I've seen this artwork on Overstock, but not in person yet. I like "City Bird" and "Meander II". I don't recommend a mantle. I put one up but it doesn't go with the style of the room. It also invites clutter and dusting - two things I hate! I think an oval pedestal table with white marble or laminate (Eero Saarinen) would look great in your space and not look too busy or be lost against the brick. If you buy the Herman Miller table, they usually have a 15% discount sometime in May. I'm loving your pictures! Comments (16)I would be interested.... SAMA does a Brown Bag Exchange every year at their annual conference. It is really fun. I actually worked as a volunteer at the table last year. I loved it! I got to see first hand what some of the artists got. Some were extremely thrilled....others not so. But is a chance you take. You fill a brown paper bag with whatever you wish to trade. Some people decorated their bags so those went first. You couldn't see what was in it...just suppose to pick one out from the table. Some were filled to the hilt with really cool things....others had a single plate or some special rocks from exotic places in the world. Comments (14)well, first you have to remove the chandelier and find out why it's wonky...sometimes they screw in and need to be tightened, but that would be where the arm attaches to the body. Occasionally, where the bulb goes in can get bent, and the inside of that is bendable to an extent...but it can also break off so you need to be careful with this... Thank you! Now I'm wondering if this space in the living roomwould be a better space for one. I think I could go a little bigger. (If money was no object, I'd put two womb chairs with a saarinen marble side table and one finn juhl one collection credenza in the hallway...)
what do you think? The pics are dark but you can see the view. the addition is going where the fencing and pool equipment is.
