Jeopardy!
Comments (20)Yay! That's my favorite, when I know the answer and they don't. I know it's easier on the couch, but still... My son and I compete by seeing who says the answers first. I can't believe a 15 year can sometimes know answers that none of the contestants or I know?! When we first starting competing (many years ago), I would try to coach him and say, "Just say whatever comes to mind; quite often your gut is right", and "It's not like you'll lose anything, try!". Now, he kicks my rear!!! I hope he gets on there some day....See MoreWhat's with Jeopardy Contestants & Canada Questions?
Comments (31)Jasdip, you can't blame politicians for the metric to Imperial conversion for weight. A kilogram is a standardized amount. A pound of weight in the imperial system is also a standardized amount. When you weigh a pound of (anything) on a metric scale, you'll find it's 454 grams. It's the conversion equivalence, just as 16 C is 61 F or 32F is 0 C. No manipulation is involved. In French, the historical word for pound (of weight and also of money) is "livre", which also means "book". If you go into a store in France or French speaking Belgium where a counter person handles your order (a meat or deli counter for example) and you ask for "un livre" of something, you usually get 450 grams but sometimes 500. To them, it's an ambiguous word and such a request is slightly annoying. Better to ask for 450 or 500 grams explicitly, or half a kilo....See MoreJeopardy: Buzzy Cohen hosting the Tournament
Comments (21)I saw this thread yesterday and realized I hadn't watched Jeopardy this week so I made a point to watch last night. I thought he was surprisingly good as host, and I have to admit he's not who I thought I remembered. I agree with MyBiz that Ken Jennings was the best with Aaron second. I didn't think anyone bombed but I just didn't think they were worth having back. Ded, I had the same thing happen yesterday where somehow I was signed out, and even though I have it set up autofilling with my user info it kept telling me it was invalid. Then I would try it again and I was in. Something bizarro with houzz....See MoreDidn’t see this coming…..Jeopardy….
Comments (17)As some of you know, I didn't care much for either of them. Here's some details on the decision from a CNN email. [Mike Richards'] installation as the new host of "Jeopardy!" was made official on Wednesday. Sony identified him as one of two new hosts of the powerhouse game show -- the other being Mayim Bialik -- but that was mostly spin. Bialik will only host occasional prime time episodes. Richards will be the day-in, day-out host starting next month. "Jeopardy!" is a symbol of the strength or weakness of broadcast TV and a staple of countless media diets, so a lot is riding on this decision... A "disgraceful" pick? The backlash? It's been substantial. Some critics have suggested that Richards is just boring. Others have flagged the workplace discrimination suits that were filed during his time at "The Price Is Right." Richards said earlier this week in a note to staff that "the way in which my comments and actions have been characterized in these complaints does not reflect the reality of who I am." But that note has done little to dampen the criticism. "It's hard not to feel like the whole guest host process was just for show," HuffPost's Marina Fang wrote. Journalist and "Jeopardy!" champion Andrew Baggarly summed up the dissatisfaction among so many succinctly: "The problem isn’t that Mike Richards is 'boring' or 'lesser known,'" he tweeted. "The problem is that Sony auditioned a diverse, exciting, smart, competent and talented pool of candidates and then turned around and hired the existing Executive Producer, who is also a white guy with red flags." Baggarly went on himself to call the pick "disgraceful." >> James Holzhauer, the champ who wowed "Jeopardy!" viewers in 2018, roasted the show's decision, remarking that new season will have a rule change: "Contestants can submit two Final Jeopardy responses in case the first one causes public backlash." >> Richards starts to host his episodes in mid-August ahead of the show's September 13 season premiere. He will remain EP... Bialik's role Brian Stelter writes: "Bialik will lead 'primetime and spinoff series, including the upcoming all-new Jeopardy! National College Championship set to air on ABC next year, as the studio looks to extend the Jeopardy! franchise to new platforms,' Sony said in a statement. Lachlan Cartwright was first to break the news. Sony emphasized that Richards did not pick himself for the job... Details here..." A backup plan? That is what LA Times TV editor Matt Brennan wondered about the naming of Bialik as a host: "After that news cycle over the lawsuits, all filed by women, Bialik's selection does have the feel of... a consolation prize? A backup plan? A cop-out? It seems unlikely to quell critics of Richards as host, and presents the potential for Jay Leno/Conan O’Brien-style shenanigans down the line — especially if 'Jeopardy!' becomes more of a fixture in prime time..."...See Morejim_1 (Zone 5B)
