Need different memo service

I used to use the Memo to Me site a lot to send reminders to myself. However, the e-mails no longer come through after we recently switched Internet providers. When I sent the new provider an e-mail, pointing out that their spam filters probably were blocking the Memo to Me e-mails, they responded that the issue was too complicated to be addressed by e-mail and I would have to call them.

Since I don't have the time or the patience to argue the issue with them, does anyone know of a memo service whose e-mails won't be blocked by spam filters? Being a very absent-minded sort, I really need those reminders.

Most email providers (or ISP) have a means to "whitelist" email senders. Usually it's something like going into your junk or spam folder and marking the message "this is not spam" (or something to that effect). Adding the email address to your contact list would probably help too. Your email provider or ISP should have some help pages on the topic.

If you have a smartphone both Android and Apple have the ability to set reminders. I can't speak for Apple but with Android you can also get reminders for appointments set in your calendar. The phone will remind you X minutes before, say, a doctor's appointment. Android will also remind you based on geographic location. Let's say that you wanted to stop at some store a few towns over but it's not important enough to make a special trip. Add the reminder and when you get close to that store, Android will remind you that you wanted to stop.

Not that stock issuing entities haven't merged, disappeared, spun off for years, the break up of ATT & T really brought it to a lot of people's doorsteps. But, in your case - Contel became GTE and GTE became Verizon, so your concern would only be with Verizon now. Contel and GTE and any mountain of paper are no longer factors in the sale of some or all of your Verizon stock. As each company became something else, you were probably asked to surrender the certificates eventually receiving new certificates. Now you should be holding only Verizon cerificates. What I would hold on to would be the receipt(s) for your initial Contel purchase(s), the confirmation of the GTE buyout, and the confirmation of Verizon's buyout of GTE. Would also keep all the Verizon statements you've received since the buyout. I kind of look at it like not saving insurance policies and all the paperwork for cars I don't have anymore.

I agree that I jumped to an unwarranted conclusion as to the reason for the licence not being changed ... but I was thinking more of the unfortunate situation if people were unskilled, rather than being critical of the lady. If she felt that I was being critical of her, I apologize wholeheartedly to her for that. Apart from that, I've been thinking of making this thread for a while. I don't feel a need to alter the main points of my story, though ... and if I implied that I thought that many kids aren't so qualified, I didn't intend that, either. All that I was saying was that I felt that all children should be encouraged and helped to learn how to look after themselves. Also that they should feel a responsibilty to do their share of chores around a household which they inhabited, as they became able to do so. I didn't refer to the money end of it, as I've said quite a lot about that before and wanted to confine this message to one simple, uncomplicated topic ... but I agree that such is a necessary skill, as well. I hope that your children and others that you know grow up developing not only the simple skills of managing their daily lives, as referred to, but also a number of the potential capabilities and skills which lie semi-dormant within their being. One of the wonderful opportunities in being a teacher is to engage with their students and to become sensitive to the talents which each possesses, then to encourage the child and parents to awareness and to develop those potentialities as they are able. And of being a parent, as well, to be sensitive to the potential which each of his/her children possesses and encourage the child to develop their possibilities. ole joyful

Memo to participants/considerers of 401(k) investments

As sable said above, it is a choice if mutual funds offered under the 401k plan and often stock with the company (employer). When I was working, my employer contributed 50 cents for every dollar I chose to put into my 401k, up to 6% of my salary. Bingo...I immediately made 50% on my money, but there were stipulations. That 50% was not really mine until I had my account for 5 years I believe and became fully vested. The 50% that they 'gave' me was in the form of company stock, GTE or Contel at the time. These funds are NOT in the investor's control. Once your money is in, you're allowing someone else to make decisions for you--and trusting that they're as concerned about your future as you are (unreasonable, right?). Not to mention--they aren't as safe as we've been led to believe. There are people already who have LOST their investments in these instruments. Not a common thing, but it is possible. Are you speaking of 401Ks? Did those who lost everything maybe choose to put all their eggs into one basket, by just holding company stock in their 401?...not a good thing at all. All 401k that I know of, have a choice of investments to choose from...see link from my post above. The employee controls what funds their money is in within the 401, and can change the allocation at any time. Some employees just choose to do an equal mix of things...say 10 funds, putting 10% into each of them. Others maybe choose a 1/3 mix of aggressive, moderate, and conservative. Placing one's savings, whatever it is, 401, sep, IRA, is not for those who do not understand the market and its many ups and downs. Because of that, some will lose sleep over what appears to be lost, even if it is just temporarily. About 30 years years ago, I remember my (company) stock climbing a good bit in one day. I made $5,000 in one day! Boy was I ecstatic! When it later came down, did I lose money? No. Did I really make $5000 that day it climbed so much? No. I only would have made the money if I had chosen to sell it while it was up. It later came down some, went up some, came down some, etc, and has served me well to this day with its nice dividends. Just need wonderful windows 10. Then Cortana will remind you. That's one thing Cortana is good at, except she sometimes uses the wrong spelling... like Dawg for dog.

Mike, the calendar on my granddad's iPad has a 'double' alert feature. It can be set to give a '1st', and '2nd' alert for appointments. I don't use Apple products myself (although after reading their response this morning to the FBI, I am impressed) I'm sure the iPhone has the same features. I don't even use a smart phone lol, but the calendars on most any pc or tech device these days is similarly equipped.

Edit: ooops, just saw that mike, and mikie replied, I meant mike_kaiser_gw.

Mikie, my stepdad upgraded his 8.1 to windows 10. Today I have to go over and futz around with it to fix the antivirus. Apparently since he did the upgrade, the previously installed av won't scan. Should be an easy fix, but I looked at it quickly the other day and saw the Cortana prompt. I'll have to check that out.

Cortana will soon have new feature.. they are giving it to the previewers ... she can listen to music and tell you the song titles. Recognize music, must have a good ear :) .. I can whisper to Cortana and it will type out my words.. kind of amazing how fast it does things. They keep coming up with new ideas for the cortana.. some are worthy.

Thanks, everybody, for your comments, but I don't do calendars and don't have a smart phone or Windows 10. The messages don't make it as far as my spam folder. So, although I did add Memo to Me to my white list earlier, that hasn't helped. Apparently the IP has their own spam filter which is blocking the e-mails before they get to me. What I really need is a similar free online reminder surface which has figured out how to get around the spam filters.
