Need help for a bedroom/comforter

It is for a teenage girl/ young adult bedroom. She wants to keep it simple. Our problem is that we have already purchased paint (In colour White Oak OR-16 in Benjamin Moore's Origins). http://www.originspaint.ca/colour/ It is the 16th colour on this site.

However, we made this choice without buying her a comforter for her bed (not very smart on our part). Do you know any colours that are to avoid? Her bedroom furniture is an espresso brown. The paint colour is pretty neutral, but we're no decoration experts here.

That's a nice color. Although very neutral, you will see undertones when the room is painted depending on your exposure.

Again, you need to see the paint in your space to get an idea if anything will clash.

That is a lovely neutral and will look great with nearly anything. I would paint and get the feel of the room. Then decide on what you want to do for other colors.

Here's an update for all of you! I could not have gotten this far without all of your help. There's still a ways to go: I'm currently refinishing a nightstand, need a headboard, will be getting a chair, need to hang my artwork. More updates will follow in the following weeks!

My inclination would be to paint the walls bright white and let the rest of the accents be the color players. White is the backdrop I've often seen, or been drawn to, when I look up bohemian pictures. I'd also put a really large area rug in the room that only left a few inches of bare floor around the perimeter of the room. This way, no matter which way the room is arranged, the rug is always the right size. If your daughter is anything like I was, the room will be rearranged many times during her teen years! : ) You could still layer her little rug over the large rug for her reading nook. You might like to plug the room into homestyler.com for working on the layout. Your kitties might be disappointed, but muscles with thank you. : ) If you save a snapshot of the homestyler layout to your computer, you can upload it onto here using the photo link. That would allow us to see the plan overview, and will make it easier for us to help with the arrangement.

I like my first idea best as far as use of space. I know people say not to put toilets on an outside wall. We had one in our last house in Iowa, but we had 2X6 construction. I don't know how high your window is, but I'm guessing the toilet would fit under there. The shower would be 5 feet long or shorter if you want a wider space to get to the toilet. (kind of tight the way I have drawn). You could do a 5 and half foot long shower and do an angled door at the left end to allow room between the shower and toilet. The vanity would be about 7 feet long, unless you do a 60 inch vanity with a linen cabinet at the door. I would reverse entry door swing if you do that.. The second top right could work and you would still have a small closet. The bottom left plan would require waterproofing your front window. Hopefully someone will give you other ideas. The bottom right plan is bigger, but no closet. Each square equals 1 foot.

Then consider painting the entire wall one color…Just afraid it might look “too dining room”. I like this color for the walls…B.M.smoke embers…from your photo, the wood tone has a gray undertone in the brown finish. Pottery Barn

Those colors leave everything wide open. Is she into florals? Solids? Luxe? Geometrics? You can go in any direction you want. Maybe have her look at houzz.com bedrooms for some inspiration.

Thank you very much for you comments. We will paint the room and then see how it turns out colour-wise before buying anything else. I will have her take a look at this website's ideas (which look very nice) for inspiration.

I agree with ellendi6161. Paint can change dramatically in any room depending upon the mix of natural and artificial lighting, as well as being near other items, such as furniture, blinds, etc.

I was just looking for a new comforter for my teen's room. We painted her room a very difficult shade of blue to match. Everytime I come homewith something blue in it, I realize it is not the same blue.

That said, check out JCP.com and Bed Bath and Beyond for lots of affordable choices.

I am only saying this because I just got back from a couple furniture stores...We were in Living Spaces and I was admiring all the nice bedding they had on their displays. You could get inspiration ideas at place like that or Bed Bath & Beyond, JCPenney, Ikea etc.
