What else to install during fence installation?

I am looking to install a white vinyl fence for our 60 x 120 lot. Our house has houses on both sides as well on the rear. This is for northern NJ.

What else would you guys have installed while you are having a fence installed ?

Planning to have a fence type enclosure for the two trash cans on the right side of the house as well as a small fence type shed (4' x 4' x 4') in the two corners in the backyard.

The fence type trash can enclosure would be by the side of the garage/house where the utility enters in to the garage and where the main electrical panel exists. My plan is to run my portable Honda EU2000i generator in this trash can enclosure if ever the need arises. And so I will have a small hole for the cord as well as a small vent for the exhaust and maybe a small shelf so that the generator can be off the ground (to protect against for snowdrift and rain) plus it will be lockable.

Access gates on each side of house, one in back if possible. One oversized to accommodate a car/truck.

Second the oversize gate on one side. And, do you have kids? Plan to? When we had little kids and a fence - we put a gate at the back so they could play with the back neighbors without having to walk around the block.

Somehow, they connected a dishwasher shorted to the hot wire. When power was applied, a safety ground would have simply tripped the circuit breaker. But that safety ground (that was required even in the 1960s) was missing. So current used a hose as an electrical conductor. (BTW grounding to water pipes is also illegal.) Well, that might have tripped a circuit breaker. But definitely should have tripped a GFCI type circuit breaker. A summary conclusion: A safety ground (that was required since the early 1960s) was missing. Devices that must have been powered by a GFCI type breaker either were not or were powered by a defective GFCI breaker. And installer connected that first dishwasher somehow with AC hot wires shorted to the dishwasher chassis. You have plenty of reasons to be disappointed by everyone (especially installers) who should have known better. This was really simple stuff. No reason for anyone of them to not understand this ... unless trained in some third world nation where safety grounds do not even exist. Wonder why so many jobs go to China.

what to look for during granite install?

We have our microwave cabinet on the end and because there wasn't much structure to the interior of the cabinet, the top actually shifted when they put the granite on as they drug it in place. My DH noticed it right of way and was able to push the cabinet back into it's orginal shape. It's right next to the opening where the stove will slide in and that's why he noticed it. Sometimes you will have wall damage if the wall is not square as was the case in one corner. No big deal though since the backsplash tile will cover it. You want the granite to fit as closely to the wall as possible because you may not be able to fill in gaps that are too large. Ensure they have all the overhangs the same depth and that the depth is enough. My sister's installers shorted her and her counters just cover the cabinet tops. My guy was very generous on my overhangs. If your overhang is too short, when you have any spilled liquid on the counter, it will run right into your cabinets, depending on your cabinet style. If they can, make sure they fabricate the counter outside and not in the kitchen. Mine did 99% of the work outside and only fabricated one edge after the granite was in place.

OK, NEW PROBLEM. I don't know why I did not mention this before. Every time we touch the countertops the oil from our hands turns the countertop dark and it will not go away with just soap and water. It will only go away with "Rejuvenate" Kitchen & Bath Countertop Polish. My husband talked to 3 different people at HomeDepot who said that there is something very wrong with the Silestone product if it does that! It must have happened at the factory & was sold as "Seconds". They said the contractor must have purchased the product knowing this & should have told us before selling it to us!!! Some people don't mind this and will purchase it anyway, but must be informed in advance. Have any of you ever heard of this or had experince with this before? I am so frustrated, I don't know what to do. They are installing the backsplash as I type this. It looks OK so far. Wish me luck with it.

Yes on the oversized gate -- we use ours frequently. Do you have dogs or plan to have dogs in the future? If so, I would go ahead and bury wise mesh at the base to prevent digging out. We had to retrofit our fence at home to do that, but we just had it done when we had the fence installed at our second home and it was much easier.

I would provide a thick concrete base with embedded heavy duty steel eyes you can run chains through to help secure the generator. (Yes, chains can be cut, but most snatch and grab thieves won't expect the extra security.)

Thanks guys to all of you. Yes access gates on the sides were in the plan and the oversize gate was in my mind at one point but had totally forgotten. Thanks for reminding that. Gate in the rear fence is a good idea. Also, a wire mesh is also planned because the groundhogs currently eat all our garden vegetables . They come through a small opening in the chicken wire fence which we currently have.

Have an eyebolt in concrete already. Had it installed last fall at the side of the house though at that time it was chaining my snowblower which I had in mind.
