How to display antique windows.
Comments (16)Pretty windows! For displaying on the shelf as you asked, don't know if this idea would work stud-wise, but what about two hooks screwed into the wall (on a stud), then two small hooks on the window frame, and use a short bit of very small chain between them to secure it. So the window would look like it's leaning against the wall when it's really attached to it? I hope that makes sense, my coffee hasn't kicked in yet this a.m. ;D Of course that would all depend on the size of the windows and the size of the shelf. I was googling to show you the kind of hook I was thinking of and stumbled onto these. (They're calling it Hercules hook at that site but I saw another site with the same thing calling it a Monkey hook.) I have no idea if they are sturdy or not, tho. These are the hooks I was thinking of, or else completely closed at the end. Or these in a small size, and put the smaller piece in the window and larger piece in the wall. I wouldn't trust fishing line myself, even if it's not exposed to direct sunlight. Due to the weight and also we have to change the line on our fishing poles regularly because over time it becomes brittle and it will crack/split....See MoreHow to paint and decorate a small and awkward room
Comments (27)Makeithome- Love your inspriation pictures! I have one question. Is there a bathroom and an office, between the kitchen and breakfast room? Do you think you'll eat there more often, or in the dining room? Also, have you thought of putting a french door in the living room, to separate it from the sun room. Depending on how you use the sunroom, this would allow some sound control and give you a great place to put an extra chair or Christmas tree, when necessary. It's nice to have some comfy dining chairs that you can use in the living room, for extra seating, during the holidays. And, it's easier to use a room, when it can be closed off (even if only temporarily). Sitting in front of a french door, is easier than sitting in front of an opening. I think I would turn the sunroom/breakfast room into a combination tea room and library, but that's just me, since I love tea. (LOL) It would be a great place for a few plants (maybe some herbs) and a hutch with fancy teacups and teapots. The front part of the sunroom would make a nice library, with a few comfortable, upholstered chairs for reading, etc. Bookshelves are always a good idea. I like the idea of closing off the living room window and adding a bookcase, with more bookcases on the other side of the wall. Once you decide how you're going to use your rooms, I think it will be much easier to choose paint colors. Think about how you want to use your spaces and everything else should fall into place :)...See MoreA plea to fellow GW posters
Comments (62)mama goose that link takes you to a picture of what the page looks like with the Stylish extension - it's not a truly clear representation of what it would look like on your computer. I use Chrome and just added the Stylish extension - back to the old GW morning glories look!! There are now horizontal dividing lines between posts on every thread - a huge help. The type is crisper in the posts, although still greyed out as I'm typing this but that will change when I post the reply. On the main page for each forum the type is larger, darker and there is clearer delineation between the different threads - everything is MUCH easier to read for me. It's still a work-around and does NOT get Houzz off the hook IMO, but at least it's a temporary improvement and I can participate again....See MoreHow to place sofa/TV w/ awkward layout of kitchen-living-dining room!
Comments (25)Sofa on long window wall will look and feel the best and make the room inviting when you walk into it from the front entry. TV on the short wall opposite the sofa; pay to have the wiring redone and move on......you cannot make the space bigger but you can make work well....PS what and where do the stairs go? Do you have an upstairs? What are the dimensions of the living/dining room and kitchen....See Moretibbrix
