I can't open photobucket where I am today, but if your windows are like mine, they are heavy! Be sure to take that into consideration when you hang or lean them.

First, I would want white behind the windows if at all possible, not red. They won't show off against red. So I'd either repaint the wall behind them or put them elsewhere.

Second, I would want them very well secured from falls. If they fall they will break, and if they hit someone that person will be injured. I have always lived in earthquake country so I have always thought that way.

What I would do with them is hang each one in an existing window so you can enjoy the natural light coming through them every day.

Definately hang them in an existing window from eye hooks and fishing line. So pretty!

I would not use fishing line. Fishing line can break if exposed to sun for long enough. Depending on the weight of the piece, you don't want to put your hooks in the sides of the piece, not the top. If you put them in the top and there is a lot of weight, they can over time pull out. There are specific hooks for stained glass frames. They look kind of like ears and are screwed into the sides. Then use chain to hang them. I cannot tell how large they are from the pic. Better safe than sorry.

Can you tell us the dimensions of each piece? That would help in giving an idea of how to display them on your self.

I agree, hang them in the windows. These pieces need to be showcased with natural light, not on a high shelf with red paint and an electric light. Use an antique chain with eye hooks hanging in the middle of an upper window, that is how these windows would really be shown off the best.

I wish I had a window to display them. Really none of my windows get direct light or I there is no way I could display them correctly. That is why I put in an outlet. I will have to play around with it and see what works best.

I don't get it. Any window in my house would display them just fine. They don't need "direct" light to work.

Pretty windows! For displaying on the shelf as you asked, don't know if this idea would work stud-wise, but what about two hooks screwed into the wall (on a stud), then two small hooks on the window frame, and use a short bit of very small chain between them to secure it. So the window would look like it's leaning against the wall when it's really attached to it? I hope that makes sense, my coffee hasn't kicked in yet this a.m. ;D

Of course that would all depend on the size of the windows and the size of the shelf. I was googling to show you the kind of hook I was thinking of and stumbled onto these. (They're calling it Hercules hook at that site but I saw another site with the same thing calling it a Monkey hook.) I have no idea if they are sturdy or not, tho.

These are the hooks I was thinking of, or else completely closed at the end. Or these in a small size, and put the smaller piece in the window and larger piece in the wall. I wouldn't trust fishing line myself, even if it's not exposed to direct sunlight. Due to the weight and also we have to change the line on our fishing poles regularly because over time it becomes brittle and it will crack/split.

I would definitely make sure they are hooked up there somehow. You never know when something might cause the window to come crashing down.

My aunt has a few pretty pieces like this and she hangs them in her windows. They don't get a lot of light, but even a little light allows for the window to glow and look oh so pretty.

Here are three windows that I have...the arched one is just hanging there in it's natural state. The second one has four quilted pieces that I made to go with my bedroom and the 3rd hangs in the bathroom and was used as a frame for a picture I painted :) There are LOTS of things that you can do with windows :)

Lauraella, I was thinking about this last night, (couldn't sleep so I had plenty of time).
There are folks who have built these into a sort of shadow box. Lighting goes in the box and the inside of the box is painted white. You have to be careful with the wattage of the light bulbs because of the heat build-up.
What I suggest you do is hop on over to www.warner-criv.com. There you can do a search in the archives or if that fails, you can post a question on their board. They also have a place where you can post pictures. There are some very helpful and knowledgeable people over there.
If I get time today, I will go over there and see what I can find.
I remember once that someone was talking about a huge piece of stained glass that they actually mounted on the wall just like a picture and backlit it using this box.

oceanna, I'm thinking back to my apt. days and back then all my windows had privacy issues so I had to keep my drapes drawn most of the time. Maybe that's the siutation with this poster.

I've seen applications were windows were hung as room dividers, i.e., over a kitchen counter or as a room divider between open concept rooms. Good luck.

Well you all have inspired me to rethink my plan. That is why I love this forum. I don't know what I was thinking, I have a window between the living room and dining room that doesn't open, duh, that would be the perfect place to hang them!

So on that note, now I need to find something for the shelf...

I will post pics when we get them hung.

I am so glad I read this! I was getting ready to hang a mirror on my screened porch and use fishing line. We have stucco walls, so I didn't want to nail into the walls. I was going to use hooks in the wood ceiling and hang the mirror with fishing line from those hooks. I'll have to rethink and perhaps go with a bronze chain. Thanks!

Glad I could help, Newhomebuilder. There is a product you can buy at Michaels and such places called Tiger Tail. It is similar to fishing line, but supposedly stronger. You can go to a stained glass store for chain - or places like HD and Lowe's or your local hardware store have chain as well. Actually, I would think the chain would look nicer. It wouldn't look like it was suspended mid-air.

LOL, it wasn't going to be suspended in air. The mirror will look like it is hung on the wall, only it will be hung from the molding between the wall and the ceiling. I'll look for the Tiger Tail.
