Comments (23)Oh Myrtle, I allow dogs (absolutely no cats!), and I'm also a dog sitter, and I can assure you that people will say whatever they think you want to hear when they want to bring their dog on vacation with them. Oh, they're perfect little bugaboos! At first I didn't charge for dogs (face it, toddlers do more destruction - or equal), but now I do, $100 per. I've also noticed that a lot of people actually think they should be able to bring their dog with them at no extra charge, which just floors me, considering they'd have to pay a kennel or dog sitter, which is MUCH worse than the fun of bringing Fido with you! So, yes, it's definitely a balancing act, and you try to hit that right cord. I'm amazed how many people have admitted to me that, when they go on vacation, they'll open windows and leave the AC on, for example because "I don't care." I'm putting central air in this spring, and I've got it in my rA that they're not getting their security deposit back if they do that. We've become so wasteful and unthinking about how our actions affect others, in this culture (obviously not everyone, but as a culture, we have). I find it so disheartening. Why does it take energy to think about how you're impacting someone or something else??? Same as, why is it so hard, as a homeowner, to consider that you are taking people's money, and they're paying to because they want a vacation, i.e.: relaxing time. Put some oomph into making your property a place you'd want to stay in yourself. That is the test. It's the ol' "Do unto othersâ¦" rule. NOT that difficult!...See MoreBaby quilt fabric sources
Comments (6)I saw lots of cute baby prints at Hancocks of Paducah last weekend and I found my donkeys in rainboots fabric (also called "Jack and Jenny" by Robert Kauffman) that I've been looking for. Tried to do a search for "juvenile fabrics" but got nothing. Their fabrics are sorted by brand/manufacturer so that is how you look for what you want. Comments (6)Also, don't underestimate yourself! If you can do the upholstering and the cafe curtains, that's the hardest part! The pillows are a cinch, and the bedskirts are easy but bulky. Breathe deep, smile, TAKE YOUR TIME and dig in, and then say, "Look! I did it myself!" You can even buy patterns for exactly what you want. Of course, I'm a fine one to talk: I have been stalled for the past two weeks on a wool coat for my daughter because I'm afraid to make bound buttonholes. I KNOW you can make the pillows, skirts, etc. and they will be beautiful. Sherry...See MoreNew bedding idea to bounce off you guys & Linen Source quality?
Comments (22)They make clips for duvets? I always just use safety pins through the seams. Honestly, and it works just fine. Typically use IKEA inserts. I heart duvets, both used as intended, and used empty as a bedspread. Tina - Is a duvet insert the same as a down comforter or down comforter alternative? A duvet cover is the outside. The insert is whatever you want. Some are down, some are down alternative, some are poly, etc. Think of a duvet cover as a slipcover for comforter guts, or an ugly comforter you would to give a facelift to. Now on to some stuff posted earlier... Bedding labeled as "machine washable" does not necessarily mean it is. Sure, you can toss it in and it will probably come out in one piece but I did that once upon a time with my first "real" bedding set (about $550) and ended up with a comforter that looked like a big sock full of melons. The filling balled up terribly, and I absolutely could not get it smooth again. Lumpsville! It wasn't unusable, but it was horribly unappealing. Which is how I happened upon duvets. I ripped the top seam, re-seamed the two layers separately, pulled out the stuffing, added snaps and shoved a cheapo comforter inside. And just in case someone out there doesn't know this, because of all the things the internet is not, phonetic ranks near the top... ...it's "doo-vAy" (rhymes with hooray) not "duv-it" (rhymes with covet)... as I smartly asked for once in a Pier 1 store. :(...See Morelisa_mocha
