Comments (24)Hey Babka, I just noticed your TP holder. I have been looking for that type. Chrome, inset, very plan in detailing. I want the inset to save a bit of space. I also like the security of my TP roll locked into place :) I have seen many low cost ones from 15-25 dollars. I have seen a Newport Brass that I found for around $50-58. A Geesa (sp) brand. A Bobrick brand that might be nice- I think it might be polished stainless though. Then there was a Ginger brand that was over $100. It is too fancy though. I want plain detailing. What brand did you get and how have you liked the chrome plating, installation, and overall quality? Depth for installation should not be a problem for me as my wall is a 6" wall....See MoreUpdating 2 baths - small budget, no experience
Comments (3)Thank you, fnmroberts. Lovely bathroom! I love the white vanity, though I don't plan to paint or replace mine in the near future. I don't have the bathroom dimensions handy (I'm away from home at the moment) but both are very similar in size to your own, though the vanity size in the guest bath is 37" and the vanity in the master bath is 43". I'm hoping to get both bathrooms done for about $2,000 if possible. I've been looking at the granite vanity tops with built-in undermount sinks at Home Depot and Lowes for the $200 to $350 range. I'd need to add tile for the flooring (though it shouldn't take a lot, since the bathrooms are smallish), faucets, pulls and paint. I have no idea how much to estimate labor costs but my assumption is that's always the most expensive part so I'm going to see if any friends have tiling experience or have put in a new bath vanity so I could do more of it DIY with a little free help. Mostly what I'm looking for now are some inspiration photos of bathrooms that have similar natural/honey builder grade vanity cabinets just to see what style of counters and fixtures were added, what type of mirror and flooring, etc. Thanks again for any photos people can provide....See MoreMaster Bath (Pretty Much) Complete
Comments (48)kaysd - well, DH goes to California a fair bit for work, so I'll tag along on his next trip! :) lascatx - very good point about aging in place and lifting heavy ipe panels. We definitely plan to sell this house when our son is 18 or so (still 13 years away), so we don't have that worry with this house at any rate. I quite liked the aesthetics of my original bathroom too. We assumed we'd keep it as is for at least five years, maybe longer. But the shower broke down, the tile job was poor, the plumber told us it was only a matter of time before the toilet started to leak, we had a view of the toilet from our bed, the oak cabinets couldn't open fully (they hit the pedestal sink, so could only open partially), and while sitting on the toilet you could literally lean on the shower wall on one side and the cabinet on the other. So, a pretty enough face, but the rest was a disaster! We are loving the new space. My DD (8) showered in our bathroom the other day and nows begs not to be forced to shower in 'her' bathroom (you have to step into the narrow tub and pull a shower curtain, *gasp*). Maybe we do need a lock on our bathroom! :)...See MoreLove House of Cards kitchen - would it work in my home? (X-post)
Comments (16)snookums - I do lean towards the warmer white and the ORB hardware, just like the finishes in your pictures (love those pulls!). That's a great example of white cabinets blending well with the copper and natural wood details. I just posted on my other post on Home Dec that if I paint my current cabinets I would use SW Antique White, which matches all my trim, and I think that's pretty close to what you've shown. Of course, the style of my cabinets aren't as beautiful as all the ones in these pictures, but it could make a big difference! Thank you, rosie. Those are my wood floors, although I have slate tile in the kitchen (shown below). I really like that too and it will stay if I paint my current cabinets, but will be replaced if I do a larger-scale remodel. I'm not sure if I would bring the soft pine floors into the kitchen or choose another tile floor. We've done several improvements - replaced all the electrical, drywall, ceiling, paint, new wood slider and crown/baseboard, and installed the recessed lighting and pendants, but everything else is from the PO. I've since replaced those terribly uncomfortable metal barstools with Pottery Barn wood stools. We're shopping for a stainless steel counter-depth refrigerator right now and I'd like to switch out all the appliances, because I know having mixed finishes is going to bother me. I also wouldn't want black appliances if I paint the cabinets white. There's a lot of wasted space on the other side of the room that I would like to expand into with a stand alone island and more cabinetry if we do a larger-scale remodel. I don't usually post pics of my kitchen but here goes....See Morehomey_bird
